As the new year begins, you might be considering a new career direction and a different city that will take you further. But you're already in the right place.
According to job search website Monster.com, and based on wage growth data from PayScale.com, Dallas is the second-best city in the United States for your career in 2013.
"IT, biotech, and oil and gas are all seeing significant growth," PayScale's Katie Bardaro said in the article. "All three industries are experiencing increased demand for their products and services, which means they are hiring and paying accordingly."
The ranking points to Dallas' plethora of big industries — telecommunications, defense and technology — and its favorable numbers, like an unemployment rate of 6.3 percent and a wage growth rate of 3.5 percent.
Popular career paths in Dallas include landman, radio frequency engineer, senior recruiter and tax accountant.
Meanwhile, Houston took the top spot on the list with plentiful employment as a petroleum engineer, petroleum geologist, geophysicist and drilling engineer.
Boston ranked third, followed by Minneapolis and Seattle at fourth and fifth, respectively.
