Highland Park High School students sent home early after second threatening note
Highland Park High School officials have discovered two threatening notes in as many days. Both were found in the bathroom, and the second was concerning enough to cancel the school day at 2:40 pm Thursday, according to a HPISD spokesperson.
"The note we found yesterday was not deemed to be a credible threat," the spokesperson said. "Out of caution, we decided to send students home early when we found a second note."
An email went out to parents around 2:50 pm, alerting them of the early dismissal and surrounding situation.
Dear HPISD Parents & Staff,
Highland Park High School will dismiss at 2:40 today. The decision was made after another suspicious note was discovered today on campus.
We are working with police, and while we do not believe there is an imminent threat, we are dismissing early today out of caution. We ask that parents who pick up their children meet them at the usual location.
We will continue to monitor the campus closely, and we encourage parents to talk to their children about how seriously any threats, written or otherwise, are taken on campus.
We will continue to keep you informed.
University Park Police are investigating the threat.
On January 15, Colleyville Heritage High School was placed on lockdown as a result of a threatening letter, which was later revealed to warn of a mass shooting.
