Dallas family accepts Guy Fieri's challenges on Grocery Games premiere
A Dallas family gets their 15 minutes when they appear on the premiere of Guy Fieri's Guy's Grocery Games: Family Style, airing Sunday, January 4, at 7 pm on Food Network.
The Dallas contestants are the Chiovera family: dad Joseph and sons Xavier and Giuseppe. Joseph recently began his own food-service consulting business; his sons enjoy cooking with him. The Chioveras must navigate their way through the aisles of a grocery store, battling it out with three other families in different supermarket-themed obstacles.
In the episode, titled "Kids Rule!" the families start with a breakfast. But they must make the meal under the Watch Your Weight guidelines, so they can only cook with five pounds of ingredients.
Next, the families must make a hot lunch using only ingredients with names that begin with the letter R. The final two families go head-to-head by preparing a supper featuring hot dogs and the color red.
Judges in the contest include Melissa d'Arabian, Richard Blais and Troy Johnson.
In each of the four episodes of Guy's Grocery Games: Family Style, four teams — a variation of family members that can include a child with two parents, a parent with two kids or siblings — compete for a chance at the grand prize. Obstacles include shopping and cooking on a budget, cooking a meal with five ingredients or less, and more. One person from each team acts as chef.
The last family standing goes on a shopping spree worth up to $20,000.
