ZZ Top celebrates a half-century of rockin’ at the band’s 50th Anniversary Texas Bash, which kicks off on May 17 at Dallas' Dos Equis Pavilion. Joining the Texas trio are Bad Company and Cheap Trick, rounding out a classic rock power performance.

The band’s 50th anniversary celebration then heads to Houston for a show at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands on May 18, followed by a gig May 19 at the Austin360 Amphitheater in Austin.

The Texas Bash concerts set the stage for ZZ Top’s anniversary tour that will see the trio jamming across North America, the UK, and select European shows throughout 2019.

As any red-blooded ZZ fan knows, frontman Billy Gibbons formed the trio with drummer Frank Beard and bassist-guitarist Dusty Hill around 1969. Some 50 years later, the band with the legendary beards has churned out 15 studio albums, 30 million record sales, and a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fans can expect hits like “La Grange,” “Legs,” “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Gimme All Your Lovin.’”

Much like a chance Willie Nelson sighting in Austin, there’s something quintessentially Texas about bumping into Gibbons around Houston. The gravel-voiced Gibbons manages to regularly pop into local music shows, bars, and restaurants — often posing for selfies and offering free industry advice.

“It’s been five decades, and I think we’re starting to get pretty good at this,” says Gibbons in a statement. “We’re just as excited to be back in Texas this May playing our bluesy kind of rock as when started with in ’69. The beards, Frank excepted, are perhaps a bit longer, yet nothing else has changed much and we're keeping it that way.”
