Famed barbecue restaurant joins buzzy mix at Rangers complex in Arlington
Acclaimed barbecue restaurant Lockhart Smokehouse is opening a new branch, this one in Arlington. It's going into the new mixed-use complex Texas Live, being built between the Texas Rangers' current home, Globe Life Park, and AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Lockhart's participation represents another big score for Texas Live, which has already signed on a restaurant from Food Network's Guy Fieri, identity still to be determined; and a second branch of Revolver Brewing Co. The new restaurants are scheduled to open in 2018.
Lockhart co-founder Jill Bergus says they're "incredibly excited" about the opening. She's the granddaughter of Smitty Schmidt, from the famous Kreuz Market in Lockhart, known for its sausages. Hot dog vendors are hereby on notice. Lockhart Smokehouse also does beef brisket, ribs, pork chops, chicken, and turkey. Which is, like, all the meats.
Texas Live will feature three major anchor venues: Rangers Republic, Live Arena, and Arlington Backyard. It will include restaurants, entertainment venues, and hotel/convention facilities.
The new Rangers Ballpark is slated to open in 2020. The dining and entertainment portion will open in the spring of 2018 with opening day, and a hotel/convention facility will open in the fall of 2018.
