ACM in Dallas: An exclusive chat with altruistic king and queen of country music
On April 17, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood hosted the first ACM Lifting Lives Gala at the Omni Dallas hotel, to kick off the 50th ACM Awards weekend. Diana Oates was on the red carpet to chat with the country power couple before they raised big money for their children's charity, Teammates for Kids.
Brooks expressed sincere gratitude and excitement for the fundraising opportunity. He kept reiterating how "sweet" the participating stars — Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, The Band Perry, Hunter Hayes — were to "volunteer their services" for the evening.
Yearwood chimed in, "You can feel good about giving your money when 100 percent of it goes to the kids. ... It's really going where you think it's going."
Kimberly Perry of The Band Perry had equally nice things to say about Brooks, one of her heroes. "I was struck by his humanness," she said, when remembering the first time they met. "You always hope that your heroes are exactly what you hoped they would be in person, and Garth didn't let us down.
"As I've heard, he never lets anybody down."
