Backstreet's Back All Right
Backstreet Boys wrap up summer of boy band concerts in Dallas
Boy bands have had a natural ebb and flow throughout the last 50 years in music history, and right now we seem to be at another high point. Not only are bands like One Direction and Big Time Rush at the height of their popularity, but those from the '90s continue to insist their time is not done.
The latest evidence: The Backstreet Boys are coming to Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie on August 30 as part of nationwide tour.
BSB joins an already packed summer boy band calendar in the Dallas area. American Airlines Center hosts two of the biggest ones: the mega-ticket of New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men on June 28 and One Direction on July 22. The Nickelodeon-backed Big Time Rush makes an appearance at Gexa Energy Pavilion on June 29.
The Backstreet Boys are, of course, far from being boys anymore. In fact, the band is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the In a World Like This Tour, which hits 24 cities in the U.S. and multiple others in China and Japan.
The band will release an as-yet-untitled album later in 2013, presumably before the tour starts, which is the group's first new album in four years. Backstreet Boys also have a feature documentary in the works that will be released sometime in 2014.
The tour will feature Jesse McCartney and Pauly D of Jersey Shore fame as opening acts. McCartney is himself a former boy band member, and Pauly D fancies himself a DJ, although we'll take a wait-and-see approach on that one.
Tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster on May 17.
