State Fair of Texas unveils new trucks and SUVs appearing at its auto show

The 2019 State Fair of Texas, which runs from September 27-October 20, opens with its popular annual Texas Auto Show, and the 2019 version is stocked with trucks, trucks, and more trucks. Oh, and some SUVs.

But no electric cars, boo. Greta, the State Fair needs you.

The auto show has been part of the State Fair of Texas since 1913. In fact, before the Big Tex "fried food awards" or discount tickets came along, the cars used to be one of the buzziest elements of the fair.

The auto show is fun whether you're a car fanatic or you just like to see what's new. It's surely better for your waistline than eating a bunch of fried foods.

Here are the highlights from each manufacturer:

    Chevrolet
Chevrolet is bringing back the popular Rally and Midnight special editions with its new 2020 Silverado 1500 truck, coming to dealerships later this year. The off-road focused Silverado Midnight Edition is an all-black version of the LT Trail Boss or Custom Trail Boss, with a 2-inch factory suspension lift and the Z71 Off Road Package. The street-focused Rally Edition is street-focused, with Custom and RST trims and a sporty look, including a body-colored grille, black Rally stripes on the hood, and tailgate and black badging.

    Ford
Ford's big reveal for the State Fair is its new 2020 F-Series Super Duty pickup. Among its multiple best-in-class announcements: maximum gooseneck towing, maximum fifth-wheel towing, payload, diesel power and torque, as well as gas power and torque. Ford is also debuting the King Ranch edition of the 2020 Ford Expedition MAX, a new premium option for large SUV buyers inspired by the iconic Texas ranch, extending a 20-year partnership.

    GMC
GMC's State Fair special is the 2020 Sierra Heavy Duty truck. It is all new, with a commanding new design and five key features: best-in-class HD towing up to 35,500 pounds, a dramatic increase over the previous generation and capability that extends across the lineup. It has 15 camera views, including a transparent trailer view for visibility around a trailer in tow. It has an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission and a 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine. It has a heads-up display and rear camera mirror that provides information like inclinometer, pitch/roll, and steering angle. And it has a MultiPro Tailgate, available on all trims.

    Jeep
The Jeep brand unveils its new 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel and the newest edition to the family, the all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator, an off-road-capable midsize truck. The Gladiator boasts rugged utility, authentic Jeep design, open-air freedom, clever functionality and versatility, towing, and 4x4 payload. Jeep will also show its new 2020 Jeep Wrangler Willys edition, in addition to a full lineup that includes mid-size luxury SUVs, mid-size SUVs, and off-road utility vehicles.

    Nissan
Nissan launches is new, redesigned 2020 Nissan Titan full-size pickup. The changes for the 2020 model year include a bold new front end design; an aggressive new grill and light configuration; a family-oriented interior redesign dominated by a high-resolution Integrated Command Center, with a 9-inch touchscreen with internal Wi-Fi router; and an extensive list of advanced available safety technology standard rear automatic braking and enhanced driving performance. The 2020 Titan is offered in King Cab and Crew Cab body configurations and five graded levels. It goes on sale in early 2020.

    Ram
Ram Truck has a new 1500 Limited Black Edition and Heavy Duty Big Horn and Laramie Night Editions. The 2020 Ram 1500 Limited Black Edition stands out, courtesy of the following black accents, including: grille with R-A-M letters, badging, tow hooks, exhaust, LED headlamps, grille surround, bumpers, door handles, and side-view mirrors. Standard features include 22-inch black wheels, tonneau cover, and sport performance hood. The Ram Heavy Duty Night Editions, available on Big Horn and Laramie models, also join the lineup for 2020 and include a monochromatic design enhanced by a black grille with body-colored surround, black badging and black 20-inch wheels. For the first time, Ram Heavy Duty trucks equipped with dual rear wheels now get 17-inch black wheels with machined pockets. The head lamps and taillights feature dark bezels. Ram 1500 Limited Black Edition trucks will be available third quarter 2019; Ram Heavy Duty Night Editions go on sale later fourth quarter.

    Toyota
Toyota debuts its all-new 2020 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid. Built at Toyota’s Princeton, Indiana, plant, the fourth-generation Highlander is longer, wider, and features a lower profile, improving interior comfort, storage, and handling. The new Highlander also comes with Toyota's second generation of active safety system. The 2020 Highlander offers three different all-wheel-drive systems, so drivers are not confined to paved roads or limited by inclement weather. It will also offer Standard Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa Compatibility and a 1,200-watt JBL Premium Sound System. Other Toyota debuts: the 2020 4Runner Venture Edition, and will showcase the 2020 Sequoia TRD Pro and 2020 RAV4 TRD Off-Road.

If all those aren't enough, NBC 5 and Telemundo 39, who will also offer a display as part of the Texas Auto Show, will show off their state-of-the-art weather vehicles like the Texas Thunder Truck and Texas Storm Ranger.

Major Lazer will headline one of three concerts at the FIFA Fan Festival Dallas at Fair Park.

The FIFA Fan Festival Dallas at Fair Park will include more than just soccer, as music will be a big part of it, too. Attendees will have the opportunity to see a trio of music performances from different artists.

The concert series, announced in a May 28 release, will kick off on June 28 with MC Magic, Baby Bash, Lil Rob, and special guest Concrete as part of their Latin Legacy Tour. "The group will deliver a night of nostalgia, energy and fan-favorite hits featuring MC Magic’s romantic ballads, Baby Bash’s party anthems, and Lil Rob’s Chicano rap," the release says.

This year’s Fair Park Fourth fireworks celebration will move to July 3, as Dallas will host a Round of 32 match early that afternoon. With three matches scheduled that day across the country, fans will be for a full day of soccer, entertainment, and fireworks.

As part of the Independence Day festivities, the next concert will take place on July 4, featuring Oklahoma band Turnpike Troubadours. The pioneers of the Red Dirt country music scene have scored three top 10 albums on the Billboard Country charts in their career.

The concert series wraps up on July 9 with global dance music powerhouse Major Lazer, comprised of the trio of electronic music artists Diplo, Walshy Fire and Ape Drums. Known for their genre-defining sound and high-energy performances, Major Lazer has released four studio albums and performed on some of the world’s biggest stages, including the closing ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics.

All performances will take place on the Main Stage inside the Pavilion at Fair Park (aka Dos Equis Pavilion) following each day’s FIFA Fan Festival Dallas programming.

Separate concert tickets, starting at $26, are required for entry to each performance and will go on sale on Friday, May 29 at 10 am via Ticketmaster.

Nine FIFA World Cup matches (more than in any other host city) will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, dubbed "Dallas Stadium," for the tournament. They will start with Netherlands vs. Japan on June 14, followed by England vs. Croatia on June 17, Argentina vs. Austria on June 22, Japan vs. Sweden on June 25, and Jordan vs. Argentina on June 27.

The stadium will also host two Round of 32 matches (June 30 and July 3), one Round of 16 match (July 6), and one Semi-Final match (July 14).

Early estimates said Dallas-Fort Worth could welcome nearly 4 million visitors during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
