There's a glitzy, flashy, high-tech pyramid coming to town, from one of the founders of Cirque du Soleil.
Called PY1, it's an innovative entertainment venue shaped like a pyramid, and is making its U.S. debut at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas, where it will reside in Parking Lot F for a limited engagement, from December 31 to March 1, 2020.
The touring venue is like a portable theater, standing 81 feet tall, with lights and lasers. It's billed as "imagined by Guy Laliberté," co-founder of Cirque du Soleil, and was previously in Montreal, Canada for three months this past summer.
It features two special productions:
- Through the Echoes is a multimedia show that takes visitors on a technological and emotional odyssey through space and time featuring lasers, 360° projections, kinetic stage elements, special effects, and lightscapes.
- Stella – The time machine journey is a participatory show that encourages kids and families to move and dance together in the biggest time machine ever built.
A separate offering called PY1 Nights will take over the pyramid on Saturday evenings and select special nights, transforming the venue into a gigantic dance floor enhanced by projections and theatrical moments.
For what it's worth, PY1 received generally poor ratings from visitors to the Montreal stint on TripAdvisor.com. Visitors complained about everything from having to lie on a cold concrete floor to view the show to a lack of a storyline.
But some appreciated the artistic nature of the lasers and lights and encouraged others to go in with an open mind.
PY1 had also previously announced a stop in Miami that was to have started on November 29; but given that the Arlington stop is being billed as the U.S. debut, a change in plans seems to have occurred.
Tickets for each of the experiences, including PY1 Nights on New Year's Eve, are now on sale at PY1.com and Ticketmaster, ranging from $23.50 to $48.60 per event.
