Hometown girl makes good
Fresh off her performance at the inauguration, Kelly Clarkson preps for Dallas benefit concert
No matter what you think about the increasing train wreck that is American Idol, you can't deny that its first season gave us a true superstar: Dallas-Fort Worth's own Kelly Clarkson.
Since her reality television rise, Clarkson has become a ubiquitous pop star. In one of her bigger recent gigs, Clarkson sang "My Country Tis of Thee" at the second inauguration of President Barack Obama.
But after a brief stay in the capital, she'll back in her hometown soon enough. Clarkson will use her fame to give back when she performs a special concert on March 1 at Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie to benefit the Opportunity Education Foundation.
The Opportunity Education Foundation, based in Omaha, Nebraska, already provides educational material to children in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The organization hopes to expand its reach to undereducated children around the U.S. Proceeds from the concert will go toward the Opportunity Education College Fund.
In addition to her altruistic efforts, of course, Clarkson will also be promoting her latest album, Greatest Hits - Chapter One, which contains her latest single, "Catch My Breath."
