Dallas is getting a dynamic new entertainment destination via EVO Entertainment Prestonwood, a new venue combining movie theater, bowling center, and games arcade, opening in the Work/Shop Dallas complex at 5409 Belt Line Rd.

Owned by Elevate Entertainment Group, the venue takes over the building that was previously Look Cinemas. It's the second EVO Entertainment location in Dallas-Fort Worth, joining one in Southlake which opened in 2022 as the first of its kind.

According to a release, Prestonwood will be in "soft opening" status beginning November 9, followed by a grand opening on November 29 featuring a meet-and-greet with former Mavs player Tim Hardaway and a screening of the ManiAACs documentary.

At 54,684 square feet, the Prestonwood entertainment center is a little smaller than Southlake's 68,733 square feet, but nonethless boasts a full complement of options including:

    • eight theatres, two of which are premium large format
    • arcade with 75 games
    • duckpin bowling lanes
    • three private event spaces
    • full service bar

The entire theatre has 725 seats, including premium pods, which have little walls that create a semi-private enclosure for two.

There's also a menu of food and drink, from starters like chips with green chile queso, to sandwiches like burgers and a Philly cheesesteak. There are tacos, chicken & waffles, and six flatbreads with toppings such as all-veggie or BBQ chicken.

Cocktails include seven varieties of margaritas including jalapeno and watermelon. There's wine by the glass, and more than a dozen craft beers on tap.

All of the food and drink can be ordered in the theater via a QR code, or at the bar.

Popcorn, soda, and ICEE orders come with unlimited self-service refills. They'll also offer deals including $5 movies on Tuesday, half-price games on Wednesday, and Mavs Game Day Happy Hour during every Mavs game.

“Prestonwood is a fantastic neighborhood, and we could not be more excited to bring the EVO Entertainment experience to this community,” says Mitch Roberts, Founder and CEO of Elevate Entertainment Group, in a statement.

Coming soon after Thanksgiving, EVO Entertainment Prestonwood will likely be opening with movies like Disney's Wish, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and Napoleon. The weekend of December 1 also features the debut of Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé.

    'Fire Nico' news

Dallas Mavericks fire GM Nico Harrison 9 months after Luka Doncic trade

The Dallas Mavericks fired general manager Nico Harrison on Tuesday, November 11, an admission nine months later that the widely criticized trade of Luka Doncic backfired on the franchise.

The move came a day after Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont attended a 116-114 loss to Milwaukee in which fans again chanted “fire Nico,” a familiar refrain since the blockbuster deal that brought Anthony Davis from the Los Angeles Lakers and angered the Dallas fan base.

The Mavericks appointed Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi as co-interim general managers to oversee basketball operations.

Dumont’s hope for goodwill with the fans never came after Dallas landed No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg with just a 1.8% chance to win the draft lottery.

There have been plenty of empty seats in the upper deck of American Airlines Center this season, something not seen consistently since 2018, when the Mavericks traded up to get Doncic with the third overall pick.

Doncic was a 25-year-old generational point guard in his prime when Harrison unloaded him for the oft-injured Davis, who has missed 30 of 44 regular-season games since his arrival in February.

Harrison was in his fourth season and had engineered three trades that helped the Mavs on a run to the Western Conference finals in 2022 and the NBA Finals two years later.

The Doncic trade and a slow start to the first full season without the young superstar led to a stunning downfall. Dallas is 3-8, and Davis has missed six of the 11 games with a calf injury.
