Miami's must-see soccer star Lionel Messi is coming to play FC Dallas
A highly anticipated soccer match featuring the sport's biggest name is coming to Dallas-Fort Worth: Lionel Messi, the Argentine professional footballer who also captains Miami's Major League Soccer club, will play his first match in the U.S. outside of Miami when he and Inter Miami CF face off against FC Dallas in the round of 16 of the Leagues Cup at Toyota Stadium in Frisco on Sunday, August 6.
Messi is the seven-time winner of the Ballon d'Or award for best player in the world who shockingly joined the Miami Major League Soccer club instead of possibly getting hundreds of millions of dollars to play in Saudi Arabia.
His matches, unsurprisingly, have become a must-see.
And since joining the Miami club, Messi has still managed to exceed expectations: In just three games, he's scored an astonishing free kick to win his first match; notched two goals and an assist in his second match; and scored twice more in his third.
Both Inter Miami CF and FC Dallas earned their spots by advancing out of the group stage in the World Cup-style tournament, and then winning their respective round of 32 matches on August 2. The inaugural tournament is pitting all 47 first division clubs from the MLS and Mexico's Liga MX against each other.
In tournament play, FC Dallas lost on penalty kicks to fellow MLS team Charlotte FC and defeated Mexican Club Necaxa in the group stage, and then defeated Mazatlán F.C. in the round of 32. Despite having a worse record in the tournament, FC Dallas is hosting the match against Inter Miami CF because they had a better record in the most recent MLS season.
Tickets for the match go on sale at 11 am on August 3 at fcdallastickets.com.
