Former basketball player and current Renaissance man Shaquille O’Neal is bringing music to DFW via a brand-name multi-act concert. Called "Shaq's Bass All Stars Festival," it will take place on Saturday, November 16 at Panther Island Pavilion in Fort Worth.

The festival, produced in collaboration with Medium Rare and Disco Donnie Presents, will feature nearly 20 performers on two different stages, led by Shaq, aka Diesel, himself.

This represents a return: The festival debuted in 2023, in September — a continuation of his touring live event series, Shaq’s Bass All Stars.

For 2024, the lineup of renowned and emerging artists will also include Dion Timmer, Dirt Monkey, Eptic, and Space Laces, along with NGHTMRE, Dimension, Peekaboo, Celo, Grabbitz, Muerte, Perry Wayne, Rated R, Sora, Kozmoz, Space Wizard, and Stoned Level.

In addition to the music, the festival will feature an array of local Texas flavors, interactive brand activations, and photo opportunities.

Shaq has a long history with music, releasing the rap album Shaq Diesel in 1993 just as his NBA career was heating up. Through the years, he has collaborated with artists like Steve Aoki, Riot Ten, NGHTMRE, Riot Ten, Eliminate, and 4B, and he released his debut electronic album, Gorilla Warfare, in 2023.

He's also involved in the restaurant business, having co-founded Big Chicken, a fried chicken sandwich concept which is opening a location in Fort Worth — its first in North Texas, opening in the Alliance area at the Victory Shops at Heritage Trace — in mid-2024.

Fans can sign up for access to presale tickets, which go on sale on Friday, August 16 at 10 am CST, at ShaqsBassAllStars.com. Tickets will go on sale to the general public the same day at 12 pm.

Driver sentenced in Texas crash that killed Chicks founder Laura Lynch

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after admitting his reckless driving caused a head-on collision in rural West Texas that killed Laura Lynch, a founding member of the country music group now known as The Chicks, prosecutors said.

Domenick Chavez, 33, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with December 22, 2023, crash in Hudspeth County, according to a news release from El Paso County District James Montoya, who also oversees nearby Hudspeth County.

The release said Chavez was driving a truck westbound when he tried to pass four vehicles on a two-way undivided highway and collided head-on with Lynch's eastbound truck. Lynch, 65, of Dell City, was trapped in her vehicle and died. Prosecutors said Chavez was traveling between 106 mph (170 kph) and 114 mph (183 kph).

Prosecutors said alcohol wasn't a factor in the crash but that Chavez was driving on a suspended license, which had been revoked due to his failure to comply with DWI-related surcharges and penalties from convictions in 2014 and 2017.

Lynch, along with Robin Lynn Macy and sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer, formed The Dixie Chicks in Dallas in the late 1980s. Lynch and Macy eventually left the band and Natalie Maines joined the sisters. The trio hit commercial fame with their breakthrough album Wide Open Spaces in 1998 and have won 13 Grammys. In 2020, the band changed its name to The Chicks.

In a social media post after Lynch's death, The Chicks said Lynch had “infectious energy and humor” and was “instrumental" in the band's early success.
