Belk Spring Preview
Belk department store gears up to open Galleria Dallas flagship
In advance of its debut at Galleria Dallas in April, Belk invited the media to a spring fashion forecast event hosted by Arlene Goldstein, vice president of trend merchandising and fashion direction.
The veteran style expert showcased trends for the upcoming season — including feminine details such as ruffles and appliques, tribal patterns and colors, and minimalist silhouettes with architectural details — with looks from designers such as Michael Kors, Eileen Fisher, Free People, Adrianna Papell, Vince Camuto and others that will be available in-store.
The North Carolina-based retailer is the largest family-owned and -operated department store brand, with more than 300 locations throughout the South, including 14 in Texas. Belk moves into the space vacated by Saks Fifth Avenue last summer. The Galleria store is its first flagship in the state, although it has other DFW locations in McKinney, Rockwall, Flower Mound and Fort Worth.
We chatted with Goldstein about coming to Big D proper and what we can expect from the Galleria’s newest anchor.
CultureMap: Why did Belk decide to come to Dallas — and the Galleria, specifically?
Arlene Goldstein: Texas is a top priority at Belk. We are seeing great success in the state, and we see potential for growth there. Dallas has been on our radar for quite some time; it was a matter of finding the right place. When the Saks space opened up, it was the opportunity we’d been seeking. Galleria Dallas has been a great partner.
CM: What is Belk most known for, and what brands can we look forward to seeing at the Galleria?
AG: Our Southern roots span 125 years and three generations. We are the resource for the modern, Southern lifestyle, and our fashion assortment reflects that positioning.
Southern hospitality is at the core of what we bring to the customer experience, and that is what reverberates among our shoppers and the communities within which we operate. We are also deeply embedded in and supportive of our local communities. Giving back has been a part of our DNA since our founding in 1888 and remains a core value today.
Many designer brands will be available this spring at Belk Galleria Dallas, including DKNY, Nanette Lepore, Free People, Pink Tartan, Michael Kors, French Connection, Eileen Fisher, Trina Turk and Magaschoni, to name a few. We also offer exclusive private brands, such as CYNTHIA Cynthia Rowley and Chip & Pepper California.
CM: Who is the typical Belk shopper?
AG: The Belk shopper is a modern woman who embraces the Southern lifestyle, which centers around friends, family and community. She looks to us for fashion, accessories and home décor in a warm, welcoming shopping environment.
