Texas' favorite jewelry designer discloses secrets to flawless beauty

Favorite Texas jewelry designer Kendra Scott turned her home-based business into a multimillion-dollar success story — and she did it all while looking flawless. So we turned to Scott to find out the secrets to her impeccable look.

Here's a peek inside Kendra Scott's beauty bag, including her tried-and-true beauty tricks and must-have products.

CultureMap: What is your beauty mantra, and how do you embrace it?

Kendra Scott: No outfit is complete without a pop of color. I love to play up my beauty looks with a fun shade of lipstick.

CM: Let's say I'm looking through your makeup bag. What would I find?

KS: I have a few makeup essentials with me at all times. The new blotterazzi by beautyblender is my latest must-have. It's great for touch-ups when I'm on the go, which I usually am. I adore my Nars blush and Armani bronzer, and I always have a small army of MAC lipsticks and glosses on hand.

CM: Any brands or products you swear by?

KS: YSL Touche Eclat works like magic for brightening up under the eyes, and I use the MAC prep + prime fix+ to refresh my look throughout the day. Once a week, I apply the HydroPeptide Purifying Mask in the evening. It leaves my skin with a beautiful, healthy glow.

CM: What are you top five makeup goods?

KS: Nars blush in orgasm; Laura Mercier's bronze primer, which is perfect for a quick sun-kissed glow; Lancome Definicils mascara; Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow; and the Anastasia brow powder duo to finish off my favorite classic beauty look.

CM: Describe your morning beauty routine.

KS: I like to decide on my outfit beforehand, then I let my clothes and jewelry give the inspiration for my makeup and hair. I follow the six essential beauty steps: cleanse, tone, moisturize, sunscreen, primer, and makeup application.

CM: How has your beauty regimen changed over the years?

KS: Over the years, bold brows and contouring have become big trends in the beauty industry. I love how a strong eyebrow frames the face and how a bit of contouring can add just enough definition to take your look to the next level.

CM: Who are your beauty icons?

KS: My mom has been my lifelong beauty icon. From a young age I can remember her teaching me her favorite beauty tips and tricks. She worked in the beauty industry and had a lot of wisdom to share, but nothing makes me admire my mother more than her inner beauty.

CM: What beauty era is inspiring you at the moment?

KS: I have always had an affinity for the old Hollywood glamour look of the '50s. While I love to be adventurous with trends in my clothes and accessories, I love to stick with the classic and timeless nature of the beauty in that era.

CM: Okay, you're in a rush and only have five minutes to throw on a face. What is your go-to look?

KS: Colorescience is a must. It's a three-in-one product that brightens, corrects, and protects with SPF 50. Plus, it has a subtle touch of coverage and color to give my skin a natural glow. Then, with a bit of eye brightener, bronzer, mascara, and a pop of lipstick, I'm out the door.

Counterfeit Richard Mille watches worth $2.6M seized at DFW Airport

A counterfeit Richard Mille watch seized at DFW Airport.

Eleven counterfeit Richard Mille watches with a potential retail value of $2.6 million have been seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

According to a release from the agency, the watches, shipped from China and bound for destinations across the southeastern United States, were found to bear fake trademarks belonging to the Swiss luxury watchmaker. CBP trade experts determined the watches were inauthentic and intercepted the shipment, the agency says.

To be clear: The $2.6 million figure represents what the watches would have been worth at the manufacturer's suggested retail price had they been genuine, not the value of the knock-off pieces.

“The sale of fake goods often funds criminal organizations involved in money laundering, drug trafficking, and other illicit trade,” CBP Area Port Director Jayson Ahern says in the release. “Our CBP officers are on the front lines every day guarding against defrauders, while protecting legitimate American businesses who are often harmed by these criminal organizations.”

Counterfeit watches are among a range of products targeted by CBP, which says handbags, wallets, apparel, footwear, jewelry, and consumer electronics are also frequently faked.

"Illegitimate sales are some of the most profitable transnational crimes," the agency says in the release. "Counterfeiters sell inauthentic versions of popular products in response to trends, often through online sources, which adversely impacts legitimate U.S. businesses.

These items include fake medications, perfumes, cosmetics, children’s toys and costumes, fashion, jewelry, and luxury products, and unsafe electronics and automotive parts, which can pose serious health and safety risks as they are often made with substandard or harmful materials."

Counterfeit goods can often be spotted by their inferior quality, they say: "Peeling labels, low-quality ink or printing errors on the packaging, and the quality of the packaging can be signs that the product you purchased may not be legitimate. Counterfeit apparel and handbags may feature poor or uneven stitching, be improperly sized, or not exist as a product the designer brand produces at all. The performance of counterfeit electronics is often marked by short battery life and regular overheating."

CBP recommends buying directly from brand owners or authorized retailers and checking online sellers' reviews and contact information before making a purchase. Its Truth Behind Counterfeits campaign offers more information about spotting fake merchandise and understanding the risks.

"Remember that if the price of a product seems too good to be true, it probably is," they say.
