Laguna Meets Lone Star State
Reality TV star turned shoe designer shakes up Southlake at lively meet and greet
Southlake Town Square was hoppin' recently when Kristin Cavallari stopped by Francesca’s for a meet and greet with fans in celebration of her new shoe collaboration with Chinese Laundry. The word had definitely spread around town, as the line to get a peek of this former MTV star was a mile long.
DJ Sno White mixed tunes as Cavallari — even more lovely in person than on television — arrived to cheers and squeals from adoring fans. Despite her reputation as being a little, shall we say, feisty in her rolls on both Laguna Beach and The Hills, she was as kind as ever while person after person asked her the same questions.
Before the meet-and-greet madness ensued, we snuck in to ask Cavallari a few questions about shoes, life as a new mommy and wife (married to Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler), as well as her plans to return to television.
CultureMap: There a so many fashion ventures out there to choose from. What made you decide on a shoe line?
Kristin Cavallari: I feel like for any girl it would be a dream come true to have a shoe line. I feel like shoes really complete every outfit or make or break an outfit, and I just have been wanting a shoe line forever. I have been working with an inspiration book that I have had since I was 19, so this has really been a dream come true for me.
CM: Who is your shoe for? What is your target audience?
KC: The on-the-go girl who wants to look and feel great but not spend a fortune.
CM: How did your working with Chinese Laundry and, eventually, Francesca’s fall into place?
KC: I have been working with Chinese Laundry for three years now, and I started to do fashion blogging for them. I told them that ultimately I wanted my own shoe line, and we both really enjoyed working with each other. Now, here I am with my fourth collection with them. As far a Francesca’s, Chinese Laundry has a great relationship with them, and I am a huge fan of the store. We have them in Chicago, so I am really excited.
CM: How has your new role as both a mother and wife changed your career goals?
KC: Being a mom and a wife, I would never now book an acting gig that would keep me in LA and away from my family. I still enjoy acting and have recently done The League and had fun with that. But with the shoes and my jewelry line, they have been perfect for me, because I can create my own hours and work from Chicago or Nashville or wherever we are.
CM: Do you have any plans to return to television in the near future? Anything for “Team Kristin” to look forward to?
KC: I am hosting E News on October 2, so you can check me out there.
