Northeast Dallas retail center signs on sports and discount outlets

Discount shoppers in northeast Dallas will get a new Marshalls in spring 2018, with the opening of new store at the northwest corner of Northwest Highway and Abrams Road.
Marshalls is one of four tenants coming to High Point Crossing, a retail development that's been in the works on that corner for two years.
Other stores that have been signed include Academy Sports + Outdoors, Burlington, and Five Below, and more retailers, service business, and fast-casual restaurants are in the final stages of negotiation.
Jeff Kittleson, senior VP for CBRE, which is marketing the project on behalf of The Ainbinder Company, says in a release that High Point Crossing will be visible, accessible, and easy to navigate. "You will be able to park your car and hit five to six stores within a very short period of time," he says, sadly summing up Dallas priorities.
A new traffic signal has been approved to be added on Northwest Highway just west of Abrams Road, which will allow for a steady flow of traffic in and out of the center.
The High Point Crossing property sits across Northwest Highway from the Medallion Shopping Center. Until 2008, it was occupied by the flagship store for Steakley Chevrolet. By 2010, the Dallas Furniture Mart moved into the space.
The site was acquired two years ago by Ainbinder, a Houston-based real estate developer. The company did not win over mid-century modern fans after knocking down a wall of decorative concrete "breeze blocks" — the kind with cut-outs that are used for architectural screen walls and fences, and that have become more valued in recent years with the current revival of interest in MCM items. The blocks were part of the original structure, and some people on Facebook would have liked the chance to come get them first.
High Point Crossing is under construction and will open in the fall.
