Design Trends 2014
Check out the best home design trends in these Dallas residences
Home design evokes a mood, stirs inspiration or reflects the sign of the times. From paint colors to wood tones to accessory styles, you’ll always find something new and interesting in design trends from year to year, and 2014 is no exception.
Dave Perry-Miller & Associates brings you highlights of the year’s best home design trends, beautifully on display in some of the city’s most exquisite residences.
Fantastic front doors
Did you know that the color of your front door can offer a peek into your interior design style? From dramatic red to modern black, more and more residents are making design statements via the front door.
These two gorgeous homes, 5919 Ellsworth Ave., located near White Rock Lake, and the traditional elegance of 7826 Bryn Mawr Dr., illustrate the power of front door color.
Tile and flooring trends
Even the most discerning designers advocate mixing and matching metal, stone, glass, jewels and woods for countertops, flooring, staircases and other surfaces. The home at 5426 Royal Ln. demonstrates innovation and sophistication by juxtaposing metals, stones and textures throughout. The powder room at One Green Park Dr. is a mix of modern glass tile and stone countertops.
And just look at the gorgeous staircase at 3828 Turtle Creek Dr., where each wooden step is intricately inlaid with Mediterranean-style ceramic tile. Another tiling, flooring and countertop trend: white surfaces, particularly in kitchens. All-white rooms create a fresh and airy atmosphere.
Center stage ceilings
Ceilings can be ornate and attention-getting with on-trend molding, gorgeous pendant and hanging lighting, and paint or finishes. The dining room ceiling at 9823 Preston Rd. is detail-rich and dramatic — perfect for a traditional look.
For a study in beautiful wood-beamed ceilings, look no further than 4223 Bordeaux Ave., in Highland Park, or 6810 Turtle Creek Blvd., which features rustic detailing.
Lighting looks
Trends in lighting are one of the easiest to take on. From table lamps to floor lighting, you can move lamps from room to room to change the ambience in a snap.
This year, geometrical and faceted lamps, typically in bold colors, are in demand. Metal wall sconces are in vogue, as evidenced by 7242 Lakewood Blvd., as are metal pendant lamps, such as the one showcased in the dining room at 5866 Lakehurst Ave. For the kitchen, the striking glass chandeliers you see at 5816 Del Roy Dr. add refinement and drama.
