Grocery Store at Your Door
How to get fresh veggies and wine delivered free in Dallas within an hour
Add this to the growing list of conveniences that encourage us to never leave the house: Plāt (pronounced "plate," get it?) is a new service in Dallas offering a limited selection of groceries delivered within an hour.
Founded by Brent Rodgers and Hanson Walker of Roots Juices, Plāt sells items ranging from produce such as pre-washed organic kale to boozy selections like a bottle of Mumm Napa Brut Rose. The former is $4; the latter is $23.
Other items for your virtual grocery cart include San Pellegrino and Yogi tea, baby carrots and grape tomatoes, and limes and red grapes. Minimum purchase is $35, and delivery is free, to areas in Dallas, Irving, Las Colinas, Richardson and Addison. Customers can get their purchases delivered immediately or at a time of their choosing.
According to a release, customers can also choose from a selection of meat, seafood, dairy, baked goods and desserts; we downloaded the app and see primarily produce, beverages, and beer and wine available for purchase. Said release also claims users can find a mix of local products from Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters and Empire Baking Company, and requests to carry new items can be made when prompted for feedback at checkout.
The app, currently available for iPhone, also includes recipes and list-making capabilities.
The founders say the idea for Plāt really came from their Roots Juices customers, who were asking if they could deliver other items. Rodgers and Walker add that Plāt is more for everyday essentials — and fast delivery — than, say, Artizone.
They hope it helps people skip the grocery store and "opt for the tap of the app."
