Doctors On Demand
Doctor’s house call gets Uber-like update thanks to this Dallas innovator
Just about anything imaginable can be delivered to your door through the use of an app, so why not medical care? Enter Mend, Dallas’ own on-demand urgent medical care service that comes to your home, office, or hotel when you’ve got the flu, a cold, or any ailment that makes getting out of bed and traveling to the doctor a pain.
“We wanted to reintroduce the old-fashioned house call with an Uber-like twist,” says founder and CEO Jonathan Clarke, a board certified emergency physician. “Mend aims to transform healthcare by providing convenient and affordable care to everyone, anywhere, on their schedule.”
The service is available for patients ages 2-64. Common ailments and illnesses — from small injuries to the flu — can be treated by Mend’s medical staff, which includes experienced physician assistants and nurse practitioners as well as emergency physicians.
Simply download the app or visit the Mend website to request a visit, then await your house call. If your visit results in the need for prescription medications, you can even have your prescription delivered to your door, often the same day.
Clarke and his team believe Mend, which launched in March, is part of the fundamental change expected in the healthcare industry, one that focuses on the use of technology to provide better care to patients. And it's already the talk of the town. You may recognize Mend from our CultureMap Social: The Innovation Edition, where guests received free flu shots.
Mend is currently available in select areas of Dallas. Service hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 8 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 11 am to 6:30 pm. Your first visit is $50, while future Mend house calls are $199.
