House For Sale
Cute '50s house in Dallas' Casa View is a bargain that won't last long
There's a super-cute house from the '50s for sale in Dallas' Casa View neighborhood, east of White Rock Lake, although given its cuteness and low price, it's probably not going to be for sale for long.
Located at 2909 Highwood Dr., east of Ferguson Road, south of Gus Thomasson Road, the house has 3 bedrooms and 1 bath, with 1,242 square feet, and a prized stand-alone 2-car garage. It's listed by Megan Espinosa of Ebby Halliday and it's $235,000.
The listing calls it a "charming 1950's east Dallas home, nestled in the established Casa View neighborhood, on a beautiful tree lined street."
Built in 1954, it has a brick exterior in excellent condition, please do not paint this brick, with a mature tree in the front yard, and a front porch at the entrance that includes a period wrought-iron black post on the corner. Please do not replace the wrought-iron post with ugly rough-hewn wood.
It boasts hardwood floors throughout, in great condition. It has an open L-shaped living and dining room area, not uncommon to houses built at that time in this neighborhood.
The kitchen is off the dining room, and it has a Formica top which is less fashionable but more sturdy than quartz or granite. The cabinets are newly painted a cheery green, a twist on the royal blue that has become an annoyingly ubiquitous trend. There's a window over the sink, and a back door that leads out to the backyard.
The bedrooms have extended sliding-door style closets, one with original wood doors. Keep those!
The bathroom is original with pink tile and gray tile trim, with a gray tile floor made of six-sided hexagonal tiles. Keep those!
The backyard includes an adorable gazebo, and once again, a large detached two-car garage, which is not common in all homes built at that time in this neighborhood.
A new AC system was installed June 2023, and the home is being sold as-is. It's appraised at over $250,000 and it's rare to find an original home in such good condition. It's increasingly rare, even in Casa View, to find houses for $235,000, especially houses you could move in to.
The house has been listed for only one day and Espinosa says she already has a dozen showings.
Please, someone who likes houses in original condition snatch this away from a flipper who will ruin it. Thank you.
