Ciao Zanata
Zanata restaurant in old downtown Plano calls it quits
After a fire that burned its kitchen in October 2013, Zanata restaurant in downtown Plano has changed its mind about reopening and decided to shut down for good.
"With heavy hearts, we have to say that we will not be reopening our downtown Plano location," the restaurant announced. "We are looking for a new spot in the area though and will keep you all posted. Thank you so much for welcoming us into your hearts & stomachs."
Zanata Plano opened in 2011 as a spinoff of the original Zanata in Rockwall; in its early days, it had a problem carving out its own identity, because it served pizza just a few doors down from successful pizzeria Urban Crust.
A manager at the Rockwall location said that they decided it wasn't worth it to re-open.
Zanata leaves at a time when downtown Plano is mostly about the good news, with the recent announcement of Lockhart Smokehouse opening a branch on the same strip.
Meanwhile, the restaurant confirmed that it is still opening a branch in Forney, "by July or August," according to the Rockwall staffer.
