Chipotle shakes up new margarita recipe with fresh ingredients and better booze
Burrito slinger Chipotle is changing its margarita game to coincide with Cinco de Mayo (clever). The fast casual chain is now using fresher ingredients and quality tequila.
The new premium margarita recipe includes agave nectar, freshly squeezed limejuice, and Cointreau to complement silver Patron tequila. The new-and-improved cocktails will be available across Texas on April 29.
Chipotle’s old margaritas were made with sweet-and-sour syrup that is no replacement for the real stuff unless it’s spring break in Destin.
Chipotle has offered margaritas for a while, but they were made with sweet-and-sour syrup that is no replacement for the real stuff unless it’s spring break in Destin.
Premium margs will sell for around $6.50 in Texas, while the house margarita, made with Sauza tequila and the new ingredients, will stay at the already established $4.50 price. Both are hand-mixed to order, poured over rocks, with optional salt.
A Chipotle’s Dallas spokesperson says the new margaritas are more in line with the chain’s mantra of fresh, natural ingredients. It also tastes better, she says, which makes sense.
It’s hard to screw up a margarita (too much) when you’re dealing with simple, fresh ingredients and a good tequila. Compared to El Fenix’s version, these hold up nicely.
