If you're hungering for dining news, you've come to the right place. Dallas restaurants are hopping, with a seemingly never-ending pipeline of new openings, new dishes, and new cocktails. There's news about pizza, burgers, cakes, ice cream, and brunch.

Here's what's happening in Dallas restaurant news:

Cannon's Corner Irish Pub will open in Oak Cliff, in a historic building at 1314 W. Davis St. on May 16. Owner Alan Kearney brings his authentic Irish background and appreciation for community, which he's honed at Irish spots such as Crafty Irishman in downtown Dallas and The Playwright in One Arts Plaza. Built in 1922 and renovated in 2014, the distinctive building is known as Cannon’s Village after Cannon’s 5-Cent store became the anchor tenant in the 1950s. The menu includes Scotch eggs, corned beef cabbage & rolls, onion rings, sandwiches, salads, burgers, shepherd's pie with lamb, beer-battered fish & chips, bangers & mash, corned beef, and Irish stew. All-day breakfast items include the traditional Irish breakfast with eggs, Irish bacon, sausage, black & white pudding, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, hash, and brown bread. There'll be more than 25 Irish beers on tap and 200 Irish whiskey and scotches.

Mixt, the California chain known for salads and grain bowls, opens its first location in Texas at McKinney & Olive in Uptown Dallas on May 15. They're partnering with Bonton Farms and collaborating with local startup Fusion to reduce and recycle food waste. They'll host a grand opening event with samples and tote bag giveaways.

Miriam Cocina Latina, the newest concept from Shannon Wynne and chef Miriam Jimenez, is now open in the former Lark on the Park space across from Klyde Warren Park, where it's open daily for lunch and dinner. Offerings include guacamole, brisket tacos, chicken enchiladas, combination plates such as spinach enchilada with shrimp taco, main courses such as chicken poblano and carne asada, and tres leches cake and bread pudding for dessert.

Flower Child is blooming as the third Dallas location opened on May 14 in Preston Royal Village. The healthy and happy fast-casual restaurant from Sam Fox Restaurants is located at 5959 Royal Lane. Flower Child is on a soul-satisfying mission to radiate positively delicious vibes throughout DFW, whether guests are looking for a leisure, relaxed meal or quick healthy bite on the go.

Melt Ice Creams from Fort Worth has opened a 550-square-foot shop in Dallas inside the Side Dough spot at Eno's Pizza Tavern in Bishop Arts. They're serving six flavors: Beans, Chocolate Chocolate, Cookie Crack, Saltlick, Cup of TX, Velvet Vegan, and the Always Sammie, which are also carried in the Fort Worth’s Near Southside location and Sundance Square cart. The new locale is scooping five additional seasonal ice cream flavors and locally-infused concoctions.

The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill, a Greek chain that made its Texas debut in February with a location at 3750 Plano Pkwy. in The Colony, will open a second location in Frisco. It'll open at the Main Marketplace at 1654 FM 423, in early summer. Great Greek features wraps, salads, gyros, and souvlaki — aka skewers, of lamb, chicken, steak, and shrimp over rice. You can get shaved gyro meat with choice of rice pilaf, fries, or "feta fries," which are exactly as they sound: fries topped with feta cheese. Two vegetarian entrees include a falafel plate and a mezze platter with grape leaves, falafel, hummus, and spanikopita.

Dallas Grilled Cheese Company has launched a new food truck called the Cheesemobile that will make local appearances and can also be booked for private events. The truck will make its debut on May 16 at Bishop Cider Company's Cidercade in the Design District from 6-11 pm, and with a return engagement scheduled there for June 1.

Olive Garden opened a new restaurant in Grand Prairie featuring the company’s latest restaurant design and logo. It's located at 3138 S. Highway 161. The new restaurant, which brought approximately 150 jobs to the area, will feature Olive Garden’s latest design with new artwork, fabrics and materials, lighting, seating, countertops and flooring, as well as a display of the new “Olive Garden Italian Kitchen” logo sign.

Marco's Pizza, a national chain headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, has opened a new location in Irving at 6941 Riverside Dr. There are 21 branches in the DFW area, and another set to open soon on Coit Road in Plano.

Alamo Club, the neighborhood restaurant and bar on Greenville Avenue, is now serving weekend brunch. Appetizers include queso riva, pink dip, artichoke spinach dip, shells + cheddar, and chicken with hot gravy. Entrees include French toast; skillet with potatoes, pastrami, bell pepper, onion, and spicy gravy; bacon cheddar burger with arugula, tomato, onion, and aioli; omelet with bacon, cheddar, tomato, and green onion; tacos with potato, egg, cheese, and choice of bacon, pastrami, or chorizo. His new menu items include tuna tartare, beet hummus, shishito pepper trio, a daily chef’s choice of ravioli, halibut with sunburst squash and rice pilaf, lamb chop with parmesan polenta cake, and an ice cream sundae with two scoops of Dough Dough edible cookie dough, and pink and blue vanilla ice cream.

11 Dallas-Fort Worth BBQ joints showcased in Texas author's new tome

Texas BBQ: The Art of Low and Slow
This hefty book highlights the behind the historical connections that make Texas Barbecue so interconnected.

Most Texans know our barbecue traditions are more complicated than a bit of salt, pepper, and smoke, but how much else is there to say? For Austin-based food and travel writer Veronica Meewes, the answer is: a lot.

Her new 512-page book, Texas BBQ: The Art of Low and Slow, covers the subject in great detail, from long restaurant and pitmaster profiles to shorter blurbs that weave the complicated web of who's who in Texas 'cue. Gorgeous photographs round out this feast of a coffee table book.

Eleven Dallas-Fort Worth barbecue restaurants get featured in the book, including Cattleack Barbeque, Zavala’s Barbecue, Goldee’s Barbecue, Smoke-a-Holics BBQ, Heim Barbecue, and more.

This book stands out not just for its beauty — including embossed lettering and a cloth wrap that looks and feels like a high-quality denim apron — but for the depth at which it chronicles each establishment.

Some of the most notable entries, such as Goldee's Barbecue in Fort Worth, Truth BBQ in Brenham and Houston, and Aaron Franklin in Austin, get six to 10-page spreads. Each is written in a way that the reader would understand if they simply flipped to their favorite restaurant, but during long reading sessions, bigger narratives start to unfold.

The author recounts the story of Fort Worth's highly acclaimed Goldee's, from its founders' childhoods and early work experiences to its beginnings just before the pandemic, to its Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction in 2024. There are even a few recipes, equipment, and cooking secrets revealed.

In between comprehensive restaurant histories, the author offers snippets of more general knowledge: a barbecue glossary, a breakdown of different types of wood and knives, and a profile of two popular barbecue education courses.

Since the book is organized by region — North, East, Central, South, and West Texas — it's both a great semi-personalized book for Texans who love their hometowns and a useful travel guide.

The title of this book could be a tongue-in-cheek reference to how it's written, with a clear passion for getting to the bottom of things, finding the flavor, and trimming very little fat.
