    Anchor Sushi Bar

Dallas-based Vandelay Hospitality Group is opening a new restaurant, this time featuring sushi: Called Anchor Sushi Bar, it'll open in Preston Royal Shopping Center, bringing new life to the former Cantina Laredo space at 6025 Royal Ln., which anchored the shopping center for 21 years.

Anchor Sushi Bar marks Vandelay's first foray into Asian fusion. According to a release, it'll open on August 14.

    Food
The menu has been conceived with "impactful flavor and colorful detail" in mind, executed throughout its sushi, Wagyu, and cocktail programs.

    Menu highlights include:

    • Crispy Rice (Spicy Tuna and Hamachi)
    • Wagyu Short Rib Robota Skewers
    • Prime Stir Fry
    • Miso Sea Bass

Sushi bar offerings include a Chef’s Pressed Sushi Roll, with spicy tuna, seared salmon, cucumber, wasabi cream, spicy mayo & caviar; the riceless Lupton Roll, with crab, tempura flake, avocado, yuzu & truffle, hamachi, and lemon; the Anchor Roll, with hamachi, avocado, bluefin tuna, eel sauce, and toasted sesame; and The Miyazaki, with A5 Japanese wagyu, truffle, shrimp tempura, togarashi, and chili mayo.

    Drink
The bar will offer sake and wine, plus Vandelay's signature "Coldest Martini" program but with Anchor Sushi Bar exclusives: the Saketini, the Cherry Blossom Martini, The Press with roku, soda, lemon, grapefruit bitters and Okinawa Sour, with acholado, passion fruit, and lime.

    Atmosphere
The restaurant is a 6,000-square-foot space with a massive bar as well as a sushi bar. Two bars. The release promises that the atmosphere with be a moody and sophisticated, with warm lighting, rich hues, art, texture, and pattern.

It'll be open 4-10 pm daily, with a 4-6 pm Happy Hour at the bar, with half-off martinis and crispy rice.

Anchor Sushi Bar is Vandelay Hospitality Group's ninth concept and 22nd restaurant, joining Hudson House (Dallas, Los Angeles, and forthcoming Houston and Fort Worth), Drake’s Hollywood (Dallas and Los Angeles), D.L. Mack’s, Brentwood, East Hampton, and Slider & Blues.

And there's already a 23rd in the wings: A second Anchor Sushi Bar will open in the Knox Street district at 3130 Knox St. by summer’s end.

Dallas' booming dessert scene will get even sweeter with the debut of two new SusieCakes bakeries - in Dallas' West Village this fall, and in Frisco's forthcoming Fields West development in 2027.

The openings will give California-based SusieCakes five locations across Dallas-Fort Worth and eight in Texas, according to a release.

For Google-mapping purposes, the new locations are:

    • West Village: 3699 McKinney Ave., Suite 318, Dallas (opening fall 2026)
    • Fields West: 5501 Fields Parkway, Suite B120, Frisco (opening in 2027)

Founded in Los Angeles in 2006 by Susan "Susie" Sarich, the bakery is known for classic, made-from-scratch desserts inspired by recipes from her grandmothers. The chain has grown to more than 30 locations in California, Texas, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.

"North Texas continues to be an incredibly important market for SusieCakes, and the response we have received from guests throughout the region has given us tremendous confidence in our continued expansion," Sarich says in the release. "As someone who calls Dallas home, it is especially meaningful to bring SusieCakes to two additional communities."

The bakery has developed a loyal following for its Vanilla Celebration Cake, custom layer cakes, cupcakes topped with buttercream frosting, and nostalgic treats such as chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles, and flourless peanut butter cookies. Seasonal cakes and desserts also rotate throughout the year.

The West Village store be the fourth Dallas-Fort Worth location following Preston Center, Hillside Village in East Dallas, and Fort Worth's WestBend. The Frisco shop will be part of the massive mixed-use Fields West development currently under construction.

Desserts are definitely trending in DFW right now, as evidenced by the number of new bakeries, ice cream shops, and dessert cafes opening around town.
