Acclaimed Mexico City bar will reside for 2 days in downtown Dallas

Handshake Speakeasy
Cocktailers on the hunt for something new and rare will convene in downtown Dallas this weekend for a two-day-only pop-up from Mexico City. On Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1, Catbird — the restaurant and bar atop the Thompson Hotel in downtown Dallas — will host Handshake Speakeasy, said to be one of the best bars in Mexico City (if not the world), giving Dallasites a chance to sample their cocktails without flying to Mexico.
Thompson Dallas' director of restaurants, bar, and events Jared Givens says in a statement that it represents an "extraordinary chance" to experience Handshake's cocktail craftsmanship.
"Getting into Handshake can be a challenging reservation to secure – now they will come directly to Dallas for one weekend only," Givens says.
UPDATE 5-31-2025: Both May 31 and June 1 are sold out.

On May 31, they'll pour four crafted signature cocktails priced at $18 each, all featuring tequila from Socorro Tequila — who is hosting the event — and Mezcal from Racho that will an Olive Oil Gimlet, the Coffee Fizz, a Lychee Highball, and a Matcha Martini.
On June 1, from 4-5 pm, they'll host a class for cocktail aficionados and industry professionals, conducted by Handshake Speakeasy bartender Melissa Iturbide Landa, who will provide insights into the bar’s award-winning program, followed by a happy hour; alas, that event is already sold out.
Catbird’s Bar Pop-Up Program is an ongoing initiative that brings award-winning bars and bartenders to Catbird each month for two-night engagements. Previous pop-ups include Highball Phoenix from Phoenix, Arizona, and Happy Accidents from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
