Popular Dallas DJ partners up to open his own burger shop in Oak Cliff
A Dallas DJ and favorite in Dallas' dance scene is getting into the burger game: Will Rhoten, better known as DJ Sober, is opening a new burger joint called Herby's Burgers, at 2109 S. Edgefield Ave. in Oak Cliff, in the space previously occupied by Pizza Fritta.
"As long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to open my own business,” Rhoten says in an Instagram post. "My dad owned & operated his own paint shop and was his own boss. I knew at an early age that I got my entrepreneurial [spirit] from him."
Rhoten will own and operate the store in a partnership with Peaberry coffee owner Elijah Salazar, and Jake Saenz, owner of Rev’s Grilled Cheese, a grilled cheese catering company known for their pop-ups throughout Dallas.
Opening date is "soon."
Rhoten lives in the same Elmwood neighborhood where the burger shop will be located. The location will boast a vibrant black and yellow tiled storefront, replacing Pizza Fritta which closed in May.
It is perhaps no surprise that the design would be compelling, since Rhoten — in addition to his busy career as DJ Sober, with regular gigs throughout Dallas at spots like Ladylove, Tiny Victories, and Double D’s — is also an illustrator and artist.
"This year marks 17 years since I left the corporate world and decided to take a chance on following my passion pursuing my DJ career," Rhoten says. "In recent years I’ve really been itching to add another element to my professional life and carving out a whole new lane. This endeavor is scary and new but more than anything, exciting!"
