YouTube-famous guy will drop into Dallas to sling smash burgers at a pop-up
A YouTube-famous burger guy from Australia is coming to Dallas for a pop-up: Leone Catalano, founder of Leon’s Smash Burgers, will stop in Dallas at Oomi Digital Kitchen on Saturday May 13 where he'll serve an oversized burger creation made in partnership with Zavala's Barbecue.
Leon’s Smash Burgers is a burger stall that pops up in its hometown Melbourne, Australia, and now in the United States. Catalano also has a YouTube series, "Leon’s Smash Burgers POPS In."
He's made a name for himself by traveling around the United States since 2012 on a burger quest.
"I’ve tasted many different types of burgers around the United States, from hidden gems to nationwide franchises," Catalano says in a release. "From learning all about America’s burger culture I have returned home to Melbourne and created Leon’s Smash Burgers. Utilizing my experiences in the USA, I bring to you what I believe to be the simple, classic and tastiest American smash burger."
Oomi Digital Kitchen founder Markus Pineyro is a fan and this is how the pop-up in Dallas came to be.
"I’ve been watching Leone’s travels for a long time, and thought his distinctive burger style and personality would be a great feature for our first pop-up. And I thought teaming Leone up with a hometown favorite, Zavala’s, would offer a unique Australia-meets-Texas experience.”
At the pop-up at Oomi Digital Kitchen, they'll serve two burgers, using meat from Dallas meat purveyor Evan's Meat Market:
- Leon’s Double Smash Burger, with two smash patties, American cheese, onions, pickles, and Leon’s Smash Sauce, $12.
- The “Live Large, Think Big” BBQ Smash Burger featuring two smash patties, Zavala’s brisket, Zavala’s sausage links, American cheese, pickles, and Leon’s Smash Sauce, $16.
It'll be a whole event with DJ Innovate performing and Encanto Pops selling popsicles.
Zavalas Barbecue was founded by Joe Zavala initially as a pop-up, then a brick & mortar restaurant in Zavala's hometown of Grand Prairie, and has won many awards.
