Nikki Greek Bistro debuts in Dallas with authentic family recipes
It's opening day for an exciting new Greek restaurant in Dallas: Nikki Greek Bistro & Lounge, an upscale restaurant and lounge offering authentic Greek cuisine, is opening on April 30 at 5757 W Lovers Ln. #101, in the former City Cafe space, where it's serving dinner, drinks, and family recipes.
The restaurant is from Lisa and Tom Georgalis, who also own Ivy Tavern, the neighborhood bar on Lemmon Avenue, and who were inspired by their heritage.
“When we visit our family in Greece, we dine and drink in a more fluid way," Tom says in a release. "This means we may go to one spot and head to the patio or lounge for pre-dinner drinks, then move into the dining room for our meal and then return to the lounge area for drinks while enjoying live music or a DJ late into the night. We want our guests to experience this at Nikki while also having the ability to eat well executed and carefully sourced authentic Greek cuisine.”
The couple is incorporating family recipes passed down for generations as well as dishes offering a dining and drinking experience not commonly found in Greek restaurants in the U.S.
Chef is Blake Andress, a DFW native who's worked at prestigious kitchens such as Mister Charles and The Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek.
The opening spring menu includes: starters such as Pefti Kreatopita (falling meat pie), stuffed squash blossom w kefalograviera cheese, and avgolemono soup, their family recipe version of the traditional Greek soup.
Entree highlights include moussaka, braised chicken with prasorizo rice, and saffron scallops. Here's some descriptions:
- Lamb loin, citrus & stone demi, baby briam, charred fennel whip
- Bone-in chop pork with Greek honey, crispy thyme & lemon potato pavè, seasonal horta
- Fisherman’s Whole Tsipoura with sea salt foam, crispy anchovy flake, and charred lemon
- Coriander Crusted Market Filet with crispy artichokes, prasorizo rice, creamy leek and tarragon sauce
Desserts include Portokalopita, a candied orange citrus custard cake; Trigonas, a semolina custard with Greek honey; and chocolate lavender mousse.
“Greeks very much embrace the seasons when cooking, so we have a menu wherein cheeses, fish and main offerings as well as vegetables rotate based on what is fresh and in season at the time," Lisa says. "We want our guests to feel like they are in our home kitchen, but in a fun, elegant, super cool atmosphere.”
Cocktails include a Baklava Espresso Martini with Black Coffee liqueur, pistachio, and espresso; Sunset in Athens with Hendricks Gin, italicus, lavender, lemon, blue spirulina, and Peychauds bitters; and Limoncello Cheesecake Martini with Limoncello, Licor 43, cream, and lemon zest.
Nikki will be open Monday through Saturday for early evening drinks and dinner. The lounge will stay open for late night drinks and bites on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. Complimentary valet parking will be available.
