Dallas bakery shares special treats with Austin at month-long pop-up
One of Dallas' most decorated bakeries is headed to Austin: La Casita Bakeshop will do a residency/pop-up at the Loren Hotel Austin — part of a regular program by the renowned hotel to bring baked goods from faraway cities such as New York's Milk Bar for Austinites to enjoy for a month at a time.
From August 1-31, La Casita will provide a special menu for the Cafe at the Loren, the hotel's all-day coffee shop, featuring cakes, cookies, and other unique treats, including:
- dulce de leche with honey cake
- dacquoise layered meringue cake
- strawberry guava and cream cheese quesitos (something like a cannoli-turned-Danish)
- saffron cardamom knots, a Swedish cousin to the classic cinnamon roll
- sesame brown butter chocolate chip cookies
Founded in 2017 by Maricsa Trejo and her husband Alex Henderson, La Casita is known for croissants, pavlovas, rustic breads, and breakfast sandwiches.
The couple has earned numerous accolades and awards, including one from CultureMap for Pastry Chef of the Year in 2023, and has been nominated three years in a row for James Beard Awards.
“We are so excited to feature La Casita Bakeshop for the ninth iteration of our Cafe Collaboration Series,” said The Loren's executive chef, Christian Grindrod, in a press release. “Their reputation for exceptional pastries makes them a perfect fit for the Cafe, and we can’t wait to share their unique flavors with Austin.”
In addition to its retail outlets in Richardson, Rowlett, and at Half Price Books, La Casita also supplies wholesale goods to more than 175 restaurants and coffee shops across Dallas-Fort Worth, so they should ready to roll despite the slightly increased distance.
