Honoring Veterans
Wounded Warrior race gives new meaning to running for a cause
Fighting the Texas summer heat to run a half-marathon might seem like a tall order, but your sacrifice of sweat is nothing compared to the cause. The Wounded Warrior half-marathon and 10K benefits injured veterans through its namesake charity.
More than 3,000 runners are expected for the June 9 race at Campion Trail in Las Colinas, which features an after-party replete with food, drinks and live music from country singer Dave Roberts.
Marines will be onsite for the race, as will military tanks and other equipment. Registration is open online through June 4 and in-person on race day. The cost is staggered, so the sooner you register, the cheaper it will be.
Founded after the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, the Wounded Warrior Project supports military veterans affected physically and mentally by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Services include benefits counseling and representation, adaptive rehabilitative sporting programs, educational opportunities, and networking.
The race also benefits Fisher House Foundation, which provides housing for military families during extended hospital stays.
