DART will reduce weekend service in downtown Dallas during May for repairs
Passengers taking a DART train to downtown Dallas in May take note: The agency is making repairs and will be cutting back service during the first two weekends.
According to a release, DART will be performing maintenance on the weekends of May 3-6 and May 10-13.
Geeky details: They're doing maintenance on DART Rail’s high-voltage power source—or catenary—via a process known as "re-tensioning."
This repair work is scheduled to take place on consecutive weekends, in 54-hour shifts. They'll keep one track open on the following days:
- Friday May 3-Monday May 6, starting at 9 pm on Friday through 3 am on Monday
- Friday, May 10-Monday, May 16, starting at 9 pm on Friday through 3 am on Monday
During these times, DART will operate a single train in both directions, serving all stations between Pearl/Arts District and West End.
While the re-tensioning takes place, they'll deploy three shuttle bus routes to replace the rail lines at the following stations:
- RED/BLUE BUS SHUTTLE: Cityplace/Uptown – Pearl/Arts District – West End – EBJ Union (rail service resumes) – West End – Pearl/Arts District – Cityplace/Uptown
- GREEN BUS SHUTTLE: Deep Ellum – Pearl/Arts District – West End – Victory (rail service resumes) – West End – Pearl/Arts District -- Deep Ellum
- ORANGE BUS SHUTTLE: Cityplace/Uptown – Pearl/Arts District – West End – Victory (rail service resumes) -- West End – Pearl/Arts District -- Cityplace/Uptown
Shuttles will operate from 9 pm-2 am on Fridays, and from 3 am-2 am Saturdays & Sundays on affected weekends.
Normal rail service will return on Monday mornings at 3 am.
These closures could be postponed to contingency or alternate weekends due to weather.
