One Texas property makes the cut on Vrbo's best vacation rentals of 2024

    Mar 26, 2024 | 2:04 pm

Vrbo, the online marketplace for vacation rentals, has unveiled its top 10 list for 2024, and one home in Texas made the cut: The list, called 2024 U.S. Vacation Rentals of the Year, showcases the 10 best vacation rentals in North America, based on factors such as guest reviews and amenities.

The list includes properties in famous getaway locales ranging from Sedona to Big Sky to Cabo San Lucas.

The Texas entry is Toro Canyon in Austin, a tranquil retreat tucked away in the hilly Westlake neighborhood, six miles west of downtown. Designed by renowned Austin architect Michael Hsu, the home offers "timeless modernity" and "high quality craftsmanship," according to its listing. Stays begin at $2,015 per night.

The two-story home features five bedrooms and five bathrooms that overlook a luscious green backyard, temperature-controlled pool, and hot tub. The home sits on a one-acre lot, surrounded by mature trees for the ultimate privacy for guests.

There is ample space for relaxation and lounging outside, with a stone landing, two covered pavilions (one with an outdoor kitchen), and a second-floor balcony. Guests who want to stay active while on vacation can make use of the partial basketball court or in-ground trampoline, or they can set up a net over the pool and play volleyball.

An outdoor shower at one of the pavilions is available for guests to rinse off before heading back inside to enjoy the rest of the home.

The home accommodates up to 15 guests, with three out of five bedrooms boasting two queen- or king-sized beds each. The remaining rooms each contain a single king-sized bed.

Natural light floods every room to provide the perfect ambiance on a nice sunny day, and each bedroom blends modern features with elegant details through its wall art, decor, and bed linens.

For guests who want to take advantage of the home's location in the city, it's a five minute drive to Lake Austin, or a 10-15 minute drive to downtown. Popular hiking and nature destinations like Mount Bonnell, Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt are all 15 minutes away.

Other vacation rentals highlighted in Vrbo's 2024 U.S. Vacation Rentals of the Year list include:

    • "Palatial Paradise Estate" in Sedona Arizona
    • "Fire Lookout Towers" in Big Sky, Montana
    • "Pardise Found" in Inlet Beach, Florida
    • "Villa Montebella" in Glen Ellen, California
    • "Sandy Lakehouse" in Sand Lake, Michigan
    • "Miracle Creek Retreat" in Epworth, Georgia
    • "Copley's Lakefront Cottage" in Winchendon, Massachusetts
    • "Villa Cin Cin" in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands
    • "Casa Acantilado" in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

The most expensive rental on the list is Villa Montebella, an exclusive wine-country villa in Sonoma Valley that costs $4,750 per night. On the low end, the lodge home in Big Sky, Montana is a relative bargain at $770 per night.

This is the third year vrbo has published such a ranking. A Hill Country home made the list in 2023.

The full list of winners can be found on vrbo.com.

More than 200 Banksy art works will come to Texas this summer

Texas art lovers are getting a chance to get up close with works by one of the most famous artists in the world. "The Art of Banksy Without Limits," a collection including certified original prints as well as photos, sculptures, and more, is coming to Austin.

The collection, organized by European events company, debuts more than 200 works that have toured North America, Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia, according to a release. The exhibition will debut at Fair Market in Austin (1100 E 5th St.) on May 29 and will runthrough September 7.

Banksy is a British artist who is best known for working in unexpected and unauthorized public places. The artist has a signature style that utilizes stencils, usually in black and white, and he has never confirmed his identity, although there has been plenty of speculation. However, he does claim works on Instagram.

Many of his works are murals, like the judge beating a protester with a gavel on the exterior of London's High Court, which appeared in September 2025 after nearly 900 people were arrested for supporting Palestine Action. This work immediately made international news not just for the topic, but for challenging the authority of the court by claiming space on its exterior, where it was quickly covered and removed. He's claimed one work in two locations since then, a less viral image of two children lying down and gazing at the sky.

Other famous works from Banksy's mysterious career include his signature series, a girl reaching toward a heart-shaped balloon that appeared around London, and a print of that image that sold for $1.4 million and was immediately shredded in its frame. Rage, the Flower Thrower, another one of his most iconic works, appeared in 2003 in Beit Sahour, part of the West Bank, depicting a man with his face covered, throwing a bouquet of flowers as one might a Molotov cocktail.

The Austin exhibition will include reproduced murals, but it will also bring the works to life in new ways using video mapping installations. It will also take advantage of the space with an infinity room and a hologram installation.

Only one hint is given regarding the actual content of the exhibition beyond the media used. A room will be dedicated to Ukraine in light of the "conflict" with Russia, the release says.

Two dollars from each Premium ticket will support the Banksy Founded Louise Michel organization, centered around a private emergency vessel that patrols the Mediterranean to "anyone in peril without prejudice," its mission statement declares.

"'The Art of Banksy Without Limits' is not merely an exhibition but a showcase with a philosophy, as Banksy seeks to provoke, shock, and even unsettle society with his work,” said Sorina Burlacu in the release. “Banksy possesses the unique ability to express truths that many hesitate to voice. In a city like Austin, where creativity and individuality are part of the cultural fabric, his work feels especially resonant."

Tickets ($19-$53 with discounts for seniors, students, and more) go on sale April 29, 2026, at artofbanksyus.com.

Fair Market is located at 1100 E. 5th St in East Austin. Hours will be noo-7 pm Monday through Thursday, 10 am-8 pm Friday and Saturday, and 10 am-5 pm Sunday.
