The Outsiders has sold over 14 million copies and ranks as a classic, still widely regarded as one of the most important books in the young adult genre. S.E. Hinton first published the novel in 1967 when she was 18, inspired by class conflicts she experienced in her high school. The central themes of the book include friendship, loyalty, and the message that money doesn’t buy happiness. In April 2014, Big D Reads will distribute 20,000 copies and encourage the entire city to read and talk about the novel.

Auditorium tickets are sold out for this event. However, a live video simulcast of the event as it is happening inside Horchow Auditorium will be available in the adjacent C3 Theater. Simulcast ticket holders may have a chance to sit in the auditorium if seats become available on a first come, first served basis. On the night of the event, please check in with the Arts & Letters Live box office about seating availability.

A book signing will follow the event.
