Levees in concert

Named for the embankments that keep the Trinity River at bay, Levees is the storytelling vessel of Dallas musician Justin Mills. Backed by guitar and a unique approach to clawhammer banjo, Mills’ lyrics draw upon the myth of the American West and the drudgery of suburban life. Though his narratives don’t always follow his personal experiences, his songs are deeply emotional, which contributes to his honest and powerful live performances.

Levees’ first album, Salt Water River, was self-released in early 2018 and follows the life of a grief-stricken man as he seeks peace. Levees’ most recent release, The King of Lean Cuisine EP (2018), is concerned with the struggles of learning how to provide for yourself and others, both physically and mentally. A new album is in the works, and is planned to be released mid-2019.
