In the national university rankings, which includes both public and private schools, SMU is tied at No. 56 with the University of Texas at Austin, University of Georgia in Athens, and George Washington University in D.C. In Texas, Houston's Rice University places the highest, at No. 15.

The report also analyzed the best undergraduate business and engineering programs across the nation, where UT and SMU shine once again. The former ranks sixth for business and 11th for engineering; SMU is 48th for business and 91st for engineering.
