In a room that includes Prince, Meryl Streep, Melissa McCarthy, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and a heavily made up North Korean dictator (aka Margaret Cho), there's bound to be a range of fashion styles. Here are some of the looks we found the most interesting, along with some surprises, from the 2015 Golden Globes.
---
Hosts Tina Fey (left) and Amy Poehler looked perfectly fine in their Hollywood host garb, but Margaret Cho stole the show in Korean military dictator attire. Love the hat.
As many noted, George and Amal Clooney dressed like glamorous adults. We love her white gloves, which she reportedly decided to wear without the help of a stylist.
Plunging necklines were the order of the evening, and Sienna Miller pulled off the look with a lovely embroidered Miu Miu silk duchesse gown with a sheer tulle back. She accessorized with Tiffany & Co. Jazz drop earrings in platinum with diamonds, bangles, and diamond ring in platinum and 18-karat gold with white diamonds.
Surprise presenter Prince thrilled the usually jaded celebrity crowd, who seemed really excited when he came out to present the award for Best Song award. He certainly had the best accessory with his silver cane.
Critics were divided about Melissa McCarthy's ensemble, which she said was sewn together from "pieces in my closet." I thought she looked much more interesting than at previous award shows.
Another "love it or loathe it" look came from Kerry Washington, in a rose-colored and purple Mary Katrantzou gown with a sweetheart neckline, fitted bodice and drop shoulder sleeves. Her co-presenter, Bryan Cranston, was a nice accessory in a Prada black kid mohair peak lapel tux.
Jane Fonda ratcheted up the va-va-voom factor in a body-hugging red Versace gown. Hard to believe she's 77. Lily Tomlin, in a black gown and diamonds, looked darn good, too, at 75.
Wish we could say the same for Salma Hayek and Kevin Hart. Hayek's white brocade Alexander McQueen gown looked more like a wedding dress than a Golden Globe stunner. And what's with the flower in her hair? Hart's black tuxedo trimmed in white piping looked too frivolous for the occasion.
Red is the new black for Orange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling, who looked amazing in a Ralph Lauren halter gown with keyhole detail. She accessorized with Elsa Peretti Bean earrings in 18-karat gold and Schlumberger Dot Losange rings from Tiffany & Co.
Michael Kors custom designed this Grecian gown for Emily Blunt, accented by dazzling Elaine Schwartz jewelry.
Jennifer Lopez's flowing Zuhair Muhad gown practically begged for Jeremy Renner's comment about her "globes."
Despite her many award show appearances, Meryl Streep often makes worst-dressed lists. But not this time, thanks to a super chic black-and-white gown with a cape-like overlay and black bow. We really liked it.
Too bad Jared Leto didn't have a date with Streep because they would certainly complement each other. Leto gets points for taking a chance with an outside-the-box tux. But he needs a shave.
Reese Witherspoon had a "been here, done that" look in a metallic Calvin Klein gown and swept-to-the-side hairstyle that she has sported before at previous awards shows. But you can't argue with the sparkling Tiffany & Co. jewelry she wore that totaled $1.5 million, according to US Weekly. The magazine estimated the diamond earrings are valued at $600,000, the whopping 6.75-carat platinum ring is $695,000 and the diamond bracelet in 18-karat gold costs $200,000.
Always the prepster, Wes Anderson accesorized his tux with a gingham shirt.
Best Actress winner Julianne Moore's silver Givenchy Couture gown didn't photograph well on the Golden Globe stage.
Ruth Wilson, a surprise winner for Best Actress in a Television Series for her role in The Affair, was one of the few stars to wear green. The Prada mock-neck column gown is offset with turquoise chiffon trim and contrasting black stitching.
The Good Wife's Julianna Margulies picked a red gown by Russian couture designer Ulyana Sergeenko; the tea length looks a little too demure for the Globes. And Don Cheadle's tux looks too relaxed.
Kate Beckinsale dazzled in an Elie Saab column gown with beaded top, and Adrien Brody rocked the black-on-black look.
Common, who shared a Golden Globe win with John Legend for Best Original Song ("Glory" from Selma), looked cool in an all-blue mohair notch collar Prada tuxedo with blue shirt and bow tie.
This way out.
