Target's Best Collection Yet
Target's sexy new designer collaboration may be its most successful yet
Target's new designer collaboration with Joseph Altuzarra arrives in stores across on September 14, but the fashion faithful got a sneak preview during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at a big party that attracted such celebrities as Naomi Watts, Keri Russell and Naomie Harris, along with a lot of eager shoppers.
Anticipation is high for the collection, because Altuzarra is fashion's new darling, having just won the Womenswear Designer of the Year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America for his sophisticated, sexy designs.
Watts wore a red wrap dress from the collection ($39.99) to the party. Russell looked like a secret agent in an Altuzarra for Target trench ($89.99), while Harris appeared in a python-print mini-dress ($44.99). To show that the designs don't just look good on celebrities, several women from Dress for Success modeled the clothes too, and they were just as fashionable.
The collection of nearly 50 pieces, retailing from $18 to $90 (considerably below Altuzarra's namesake line, which starts at $900), was laid out in a funhouse setting, with mirrors everywhere and twinkling lights above, so disoriented shoppers were running into each other and their own reflections.
But that didn't stop them from snapping up such items as a python-print skirt with thigh-high slit ($34.99); black sweater embroidered with images of cranes ($49.99); croc embossed booties ($59.99); satin navy blouse with orchid print ($34.99); and dominatrix-like, over-the-knee black boots ($79.99).
Also in the mix were a sexy satin cami set ($34.99), peekaboo lace dress ($39.99) and red velvet blazer ($59.99) with matching tuxedo pants ($39.99).
If the preview was any indication, the collection may be one of Target's sexiest yet — and one of its best-sellers. Altuzarra for Target is also available on the Target website and Net-A-Porter.
