Miss Wu to you: Jason Wu launches new free-spirited collection at Nordstrom

Jason Wu, who designed Michelle Obama's inauguration gown in 2009 when he was only 26, has collaborated with Nordstrom to create a new contemporary line called Miss Wu. It's got a relaxed downtown attitude and a bit of a '60s vibe, with whimsical prints, bold colors and Wu's signature "hand-painted stripes" on blouses and skirts.
“I felt that there was a place in the ever-growing designer contemporary market for these feminine and sophisticated pieces,” Wu said in a statement.
The 40-piece collection retails for $195-$795 — not cheap, but considerably less expensive than his signature Jason Wu line.

“This collaboration has an appeal not just to a younger set of women, but to a broader set of women and at prices that are approachable. What’s great is that while feeling different from the Jason Wu signature collection, it still clearly has Jason’s design DNA,” Nordstrom executive vice president Jeffrey Kalinsky said in a statement.
The new spring/summer collection has just arrived at a select 49 Nordstrom stores, including NorthPark Center and Galleria Dallas, and online at nordstrom.com.
Long before it was in stores, the first lady was the first to be photographed in the new Miss Wu collection at a campaign event in Cincinnati in October. She wore a green checkered "modern weave dress" from the collection (similar to the one shown in top right photo) and paired it with a patterned sweater and statement necklace. (A representative for Wu told The Daily Beast that he had sent the the dress to the first lady.)
Wonder if Wu will be smiling — again — come the evening of the second Obama inauguration?
