Dallas Design District showroom forms pearl of a new furniture line
If you're itching to freshen up your home's look, there's a new local line of furniture to consider.
Rupal Dalal, owner of Dallas' Art of Old India, is branching out from importing pieces from India and the Middle East to designing her own furniture line. Called The Pearl Collection, Dalal's furniture and accessories bridge the gap between traditional and modern styles.
"I originally made one coffee table for my house," says Dalal. "It turned out so well that I was inspired to expand on it."
The collection includes coffee tables, benches, mirrors, a console table, a nightstand, and small accessories. All are made from mother of pearl and glass, and a few pieces also incorporate reclaimed teakwood and neemwood. Prices range from $270-$4,100, which seems appropriate when you consider the intricate labor involved.
"Every piece, including each little piece of mother of pearl, is carved and made by hand in India," says Dalal. "The pearl is so pretty and has a little sparkle to it."
Art of Old India has been a staple of the Dallas home decor scene since 1974. Dalal grew up playing and working among the treasures, and the store opened to the public a few years ago under her ownership. Dalal's new collection will be available at the Design District showroom starting January 21.
