Restaurant with a dozen kinds of chicken salad flutters into McKinney
It's chicken salad for everyone, or at least for the city of McKinney. Chicken Salad Chick, the Southern-inspired, fast-casual restaurant concept dedicated to chicken salad, opened a location in McKinney on March 20.
The restaurant is at 3520 W. University Dr., in a new-ish center a few blocks west of US 75. This is the fourth Chicken Salad Chick in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the third opening in Texas this year; another opened in Irving in February.
Chicken Salad Chick was founded in Alabama in 2008. With more than a dozen original chicken salad flavors as well as side salads, soups, sandwiches, and desserts, Chicken Salad Chick's robust menu offers options suitable for any guest.
They sell chicken salad by the pound, for about $10 per; they plop it onto sheets of paper on a tray, not unlike barbecue.
Diners can customize their chicken salad with various flavor add-ins such as pickles, apples, cranberries, pecans, jalapenos, and bacon.
CSC also does soups and side salads using some of the add-in ingredients, such as cranberry-apple salad, pasta salad with olives and artichokes, and broccoli salad with cheese and bacon.
According to a release, there are currently 100-plus locations in 13 states; McKinney would be No. 111, which is a magical number.
The McKinney location is from Luis Ibarguengoytia, a franchise veteran and former Liberty Burger franchisee who has plans to open 15 Chicken Salad Chick restaurants throughout DFW, including Arlington and Mansfield.
Ibarguengoytia's other concepts include Bruegger's Bagels, Cru Wine Bar, and Panda Express.
