The 8 glorious galas and lavish luncheons all Dallas socialites must attend this spring
It's time to start thinking about the spring social events that make Dallas the philanthropic playground of all playgrounds. The luncheons are lavish and the galas are grand. And the best news? Millions upon millions are raised for children, cancer research, HIV/AIDS, and more. Now let's raise a glass and raise some funds, shall we?
UNICEF Dallas Gala, February 7
Those who enjoy a celeb sighting on a philanthropic night out should buy a ticket to this third annual gala, which lights up the Ritz-Carlton red carpet with sparkling gowns and camera flashes. Chaired by Moll Anderson and Jan Miller Rich, this event supports UNICEF's life-saving programs worldwide. A musical performance will be given by King Calaway, and Jessica and Dirk Nowitzki will receive the Spirit of Compassion Award.
Art in Bloom, March 2
For those who are royally obsessed, be sure to attend this floral-infused fête that is both chic and intellectual. This year's featured speaker is Shane Connolly, the famous floral designer and artistic director for the royal weddings of Prince Charles to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall; and of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, better known as William and Kate. This event, chaired by Therese Rourk, provides support for the Dallas Museum of Art’s education and exhibition programs, as well as the Art League’s Floral Endowment Fund.
Chick Lit Luncheon, March 27
Academy Award-winning actress, director, and author Diane Keaton will headline this beloved Dallas luncheon. It will feature a chat with the Hollywood megastar, which will no doubt include vignettes from her forthcoming book, Brother & Sister: A Memoir. The big-deal luncheon at the Hilton Anatole, which raises money for Community Partners of Dallas, is presented by Dr. Robert and Lara Tafel. Sally Dutter and Beth Thoele are serving as co-chairs, and honorary chair is Tracey Kozmetsky.
Mad Hatter's Tea, April 16
Consider this your official reminder to get started designing your hat. Whether yours is from Charleston, New York, Dallas, or Amazon, the bigger the better for this posh tea party under tents at the Arboretum. Themed "The Art of Chic," the luncheon has a most fashionable chair in designer Patti Flowers this year. Funds raised benefit the Women's Council of the Dallas Arboretum.
Children's Cancer Fund Gala, April 17
Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach's passion project is fighting childhood cancer, and this year they've recruited chairs Jamie O'Banion and Holly Pellham Davis to help throw the epic evening that tugs at the heartstrings. The highlight of this gala is always seeing children rocking the Hilton Anatole runway with their idols and favorite superheros.
Art Ball, April 18
Considered the grandest gala of spring, this beautiful ball at the Dallas Museum of Art is an evening of glamour from start to finish. Brian Bolke will chair the 2020 gala, which is its impressive 55th anniversary. The Art Ball supports the museum's mission to offer free admission to the more than 800,000 annual visitors.
Genesis Annual Luncheon, May 8
Event chair Leigh Anne Haugh managed to snag one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, Nicole Kidman, for this annual luncheon at the Hilton Anatole. It raises funds for the organization's continuous effort to provide safety, shelter, and support for women who have experienced domestic violence. The luncheon is already sold out; however, interested attendees can join a wait list in case last-minute tickets become available.
House of DIFFA, May 16
Themed "Extravaganza" and happening at the Omni Hotel, May's most colorful gala will feature a one-of-a-kind runway show and killer silent auction. The event will celebrate 30 years of raising funds to aid organizations that help raise awareness, advocate for individuals, and fight HIV/AIDS in the Dallas community.
