Get ready to rock with legend Pat Benatar at the increasingly hot Annette Strauss Square
Annette Strauss Square, the outdoor performance venue just outside the Winspear Opera House, has earned a rep for attracting top-notch concerts. Just in the last six months, the stage has seen action from Ricky Skaggs, Leon Russell, Tegan and Sara (soon to be seen touring with Fun) and The Wailers. The Gipsy Kings, who played to a sold-out crowd there last year, are set for a repeat performance.
That list now includes Pat Benatar, who hits the square April 14. Benatar remains a living rock legend despite not having put out any new music since 2003. But who needs new music when classics like "Love Is a Battlefield," "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Heartbreaker" and "We Belong" never fail to entertain?
As always, Benatar will be joined by her husband, guitarist Neil Giraldo. The two have been married since 1982, but Giraldo's influence on Benatar's career — as musician, songwriter and producer — dates back to her debut album in 1979.
Although previous concerts at Annette Strauss Square have been relatively affordable, prepare to pony up for Benatar. Open lawn seating will be $36 per person, but reserved seats will run up to $125 each for the first three rows. Hit me with your best shot, indeed.
