Candy's House of the Week
This contemporary country paradise is way more interesting with Champ d'Or for a neighbor
This is an interesting home for many reasons, but mainly because of its neighbor: Champ d’Or. After 10 years on the market, the 30,000-square-foot Champ finally sold at auction in 2012. Over the years, price tags on the property ranged from $65 million to $25 million. The home had more agents than Dallas County DA Craig Watkins has sick days.
The Champ’s final selling price was reportedly less than $10 million. Word is that the family who bought it will turn it into an event space.
So the new owner of 1745 Turbeville Rd. will have quite the fancy neighbor. What a great place to borrow a cup of sugar.
Or, better yet, just borrow the chef.
Interestingly, 1745 Turbeville Rd. has an entirely different feel than the French Romanesque Champ. It’s Green Acres with a contemporary twist. The home is transitionally modern, with 17,000 clean square feet filled with six bedrooms, study, media room and game room. Two living areas, with walls of glass, afford views of the huge saltwater pool.
Speaking of the pool, it has a private cabana, veranda and outdoor fireplace. We told you this was paradise, and we mean it: This sophisticated number comes with its own pond, horse barn and a 6,000-square-foot workshop. That workshop is bigger than most homes!
The home was built in 1999 and rests on more than 10 acres. The address is similar to that of major North Texas developer Mehrdad Moayedi, who owns a whole lot of land along Turbeville Road, as well as the Stoneleigh Residences.
Where exactly is this place? Head north on I-35 toward Denton, about 20 to 30 minutes, then turn west off the highway onto Turbeville. There you will find the peaceful metropolis of Hickory Creek, just past the town hall, horses and cattle.
The asking price is $4,450,000, listed with Clay Stapp+Co, who knows a thing or two about Hickory Creek: He brought the buyer to Champ’s auction last year.
