The Mommy Stylist
10 ways to make a fashion statement at a summer picnic
Looking good at a picnic isn't easy, especially for a mom. Functionality is key when you're moving around a lot (chasing after the kids, taking them to the playground or pool, setting up the food); sitting on various surfaces (lawn chairs, picnic tables, the ground); keeping your family from getting burnt to a crisp (sticky sunscreen, finding lost hats); and wiping melted Popsicle off faces and hands.
Plus you may be called upon to participate in a potato sack race or a water balloon contest. With all that to consider, attempting to be stylish seems futile. But that's just not the case.
First and foremost, wear a hat such as a fedora or bucket-style. You'll look cute, and you won't have to worry about the condition of your hair, even if you go swimming.
Next, find some on-trend clothes that are comfortable and appropriate for all the various scenarios — think maxi skirts or dresses, cut-offs, rompers and overalls. Lastly, throw a light sweater or jacket in your bag to ward off mosquitoes or combat the AC when you head indoors.
Overalls are back, and they aren't just for kids. Pair yours with a black tank and some checkered Vans sneakers for a cool, grown-up look.
