    This Week's Hot Headlines

Dallas restaurant comings and goings feed this week's top stories

    Lindsey Wilson
    Aug 5, 2017 | 10:00 am

Editor's note: A lot happened this week, but here's your chance to get caught up. Read on for more of the week's most popular headlines.

    1. Dallas restaurant snaps up Little Woodrow's cool Ross Avenue space. Unsurprisingly, the killer space at 3300 Ross Ave. that was recently vacated by Houston-based sports bar Little Woodrow's has already been snagged by a new tenant. Called Ross & Hall, it'll be a neighborhood restaurant and beer garden from the folks who own State & Allen, Nodding Donkey, and Social Pie.

    2. Uptown Dallas' Patrizio closes to pave way for new Italio restaurant. An Italian restaurant at one of the most central spots in Uptown Dallas is on its way out, but there's already a new place moving in. The Italian restaurant is Patrizio, located at the intersection of McKinney Avenue and Hall Street, and it will be replaced by a new concept called Sallio Italio.

    3. Vegan-friendly falafel restaurant chain shuts down its Dallas location. A Washington, D.C.-based chain that specializes in falafel sandwiches has closed its Dallas location. Amsterdam Falafelshop, which resided in Deep Ellum at 2651 Commerce St., closed on July 30. Moving trucks were at the restaurant, and the restaurant confirmed that it had closed permanently.

    4. This ghost town and its spooky cemetery lie just west of Fort Worth. If you're visiting Marfa or Abilene, this former mining town an hour west of Fort Worth is the perfect stop.

    5. Omni Frisco Hotel at The Star opens with big chefs and shopping perks. The Omni Frisco Hotel at The Star is now open, with 300 guest rooms, a rooftop pool, and a decorative theme that pays subtle tribute to the Dallas Cowboys. Exceptional dining and retail experiences include a branch of Neighborhood Services and a boutique named for Cowboys VP Charlotte Jones.

This Ross Avenue spot wasn't vacant for long.

Kendrick Lamar and SZA team for 2025 tour with stop in Arlington

Kendrick Lamar and SZA will perform at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on April 25, 2025.

High-powered rappers Kendrick Lamar and SZA are joining forces for the Grand National Tour, which will hit stadiums across North America in 2025, including AT&T Stadium in Arlington on April 26.

The tour is scheduled to go to 19 cities over two months, starting in Minneapolis, Minnesota and finishing in Washington, DC. In addition to Arlington, it will stop in Houston on April 23.

Each artist has been a top seller since their debuts. Lamar has notched four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, including the recently-released GNX. Both of SZA's albums made the top 3 on the Billboard 200, including SOS in 2022, and her third album, Lana, is scheduled to be released before the end of the year.

The duo are no strangers to partnerships: They collaborated on the 2018 song "All the Stars" which appeared on Lamar's Black Panther album. The video for the song provoked a lawsuit by artist Lina Iris Viktor for copyright infringement. Viktor claimed that elements of her painting series “Constellations” were used in the song without permission. According to Pitchfork, the suit was eventually settled.

While SZA had a memorable 2024, winning three Grammy Awards, Lamar dominated the rap landscape thanks to his feud with fellow rapper Drake.

A series of back-and-forth diss tracks resulted in several charting singles for Lamar, including the No. 1 - and now iconic - "Not Like Us." Hilariously, the only non-U.S. city on the tour is Toronto, Drake's hometown.

The last time Lamar came through town was in July 2022, when he performed at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

There will be an exclusive Cash App Visa Card pre-sale starting on Wednesday, December 4 at 10 am. The general on sale starts on Friday, December 6 at 10am local time on grandnationaltour.com
