Editor's note: Another week has come and gone, and there's a lot we all probably missed. But we're looking out for you, kid. Here are the most popular stories from this past week:

1. Glazed Donut Works in Deep Ellum sells out on first day in 90 minutes. The first-day at Glazed Donut Works in Deep Ellum began at 7 am and included an immediate line humming with memorable customer remarks such as "OH MY GOD IT HAS BACON ON IT." The only menu item that waned in popularity was the vegan doughnut, a golden confection with a thick, pale glaze. By 8:30 am, the shop was sold out.

2. Dallas rabbi defends teen at center of Bar Mitzvah viral video. The Bar Mitzvah after-party of one Dallas 13-year-old named Sam Horowitz has risen to viral video status. Held at the Omni Hotel in Dallas last November, it puts Horowitz at the center of a saucy dance number with eight shimmying backup dancers. But not all the attention has been positive, and Horowitz's rabbi William Gershon of Congregation Shearith Israel has rushed to his defense after rabbi David Wolpe penned an outraged op-ed in the Washington Post. Wople later apologized to Horowitz and Gershon.

3. A public apology to Black Swan Saloon and its tremendous cocktails. Speaking of mea culpa columns, staff writer Jonathan Rienstra says he understands why some people were upset with the best cocktail bars list. "to everyone who found fault with my omission of Black Swan Saloon, please accept my apology. Y’all might have had a point," he writes.

4. Hot young professionals mix it up at first-ever CultureMap Social. Hundreds of young professionals had NYLO Dallas South Side buzzing at the inaugural CultureMap Social happy hour. Never missing a chance to sip ice-cold beer from Franconia Brewing Company and Harpoon Brewery, the crowd enthusiastically browsed designer duds at the Roving Style pop-up shop and painted personalized masterpieces with Pinot's Palette.

5. Eight tips for teaching your kids how to be citizens of the world. This summer, Dawn McMullan has penned a series of stories called "92 Days of Summer" in which she shares her parenting wisdom. Her latest column takes readers on humanitarian trips to Mexico and El Salvador. "It's okay if your kids are uncomfortable," McMullan writes.

Taylor Sheridan pens 'darkly funny' book about how to survive prison

In the same week that Taylor Sheridan announced he's setting his new series Frisco King in DFW comes news that he's written his first book. The Oscar-nominated screenplay writer and Yellowstone co-creator has written about crime and violence so often that he decided to work on a book about an ordeal he has never endured: life behind bars.

Simon & Schuster announced Sheridan's How to Not Die in Prison, a “darkly funny survival guide” to a maximum-security facility, will come out June 23. Sheridan is a best screenplay nominee for the 2016 crime drama Hell or High Water, and has overseen such TV series as Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and Mayor of Kingstown.

“You might wonder what in the world gives me the knowledge or wisdom to write a survival guide to prison,” Sheridan writes in the book’s introduction, according to Simon & Schuster. “Well, I’ll tell you — absolutely nothing. I’ve never been to prison. But, like every man, I’ve certainly wondered how I would survive if circumstances ever put me there. That morbid curiosity sent me on a journey to understand the politics and dangers of prison.”

Sheridan did receive some firsthand input. His co-author is Tom Nelson, who spent more than a decade in prison.

“Hey, one of us has written hit TV shows and Academy Award-nominated movies, and the other has spent much of his adult life behind bars in medium and maximum-security prisons,” Nelson said in a statement. “If that’s what makes for good wisdom and entertainment, I’ll take it.”

Sheridan is an honorary Fort Worthian who attended Pascal High School. He lives on a ranch near Weatherford with his wife, Nicole and often films his shows around Fort Worth - including 1883, and currently Landman, and Lioness.

Bolstered by Sheridan's presence, Fort Worth has made the list of top cities for filmmakers in recent years.

Sheridan's other film credits include writing and directing the Angelina Jolie thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead and the Western thriller Wind River, starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen. Last fall, Paramount Pictures and Activision announced that Sheridan and Hell or High Water collaborator Peter Berg are working on an adaptation of the blockbuster video game franchise Call of Duty.
