    Drafting a new owner

Ex-Cowboy fields offers for his Oak Lawn home listed at $2.25 million

    John Egan
    Aug 27, 2019 | 12:20 pm

Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman hopes to pass along his Oak Lawn home to a new owner for $2.25 million.

The contemporary house, situated on a corner lot at 2817 Park Bridge Ct., is one of just 14 homes in a gated community surrounded by Turtle Creek and the Katy Trail. The 3,633-square-foot home, built by Glendale Homes, features three bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms.

T.J. Frank of Rogers Healy and Associates has the listing, which was first reported by Realtor.com.

“One of the most unique features of the property is the over 400-square-foot outdoor living deck that overlooks Turtle Creek. You could drive past this neighborhood 100 times and easily miss it,” Frank says. “It is truly a unique opportunity to own something you don’t find in the middle of the city.”

According to the listing online, an open house will take place from 1-3 pm August 31.

Probably the most impressive aspect of the two-story house is the decked-out kitchen, complete with a six-burner Wolfe gas range, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, double ovens, and dual dishwashers.

Once you’re done cooking a feast in the kitchen, you can retire to the master bedroom, highlighted by a separate living area, dual bathroom vanities, a jet tub, and a steam-equipped shower.

    Other amenities include:

    • Massive windows allowing spectacular views of trees
    • Elevator
    • Two fireplaces
    • Limestone entryway
    • Wide-plank ebony hardwoods
    • Carrera marble and travertine floors
    • Vaulted ceilings
    • Security cameras
    • Surround-sound system

Drafted by Dallas in 2003, Newman spent the first nine seasons of his NFL career with the Cowboys after playing college ball at Kansas State University.

He went on to play three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and another three seasons with the Vikings before announcing his retirement in 2018.

The two-time Pro Bowler then joined the Vikings’ coaching staff; however, just a year later, he’s no longer listed on the Vikings’ website as a coach.

The home is at 2817 Park Bridge Ct., in a gated community near Turtle Creek and the Katy Trail.

City of Dallas debuts new DallasNow streamlined permitting process

The City of Dallas has unveiled a new system designed to streamline business-y tasks such as obtaining permits and inspections. Called DallasNow, it's a cloud-based application for "land management" — incorporating services such as permitting, zoning, and inspections, used by developers and businesses who need city permission before they start doing what they do.

As of May 5, the City of Dallas will use DallasNow to submit and review applications, schedule inspections, and submit payments. Users can set up an account, view records, submit applications, and schedule inspections all on one platform.

According to Dallas' director of Planning & Development Emily Liu, the project has been in the making for two years.

"We heard from our customers that things needed to be changed, and we have worked to make changes. Some have been steady incremental changes and with DallasNow, this will be a monumental change in the way we will do business with much improved transparency and customer service,” Liu says.

Permitting has always been a labyrinth, but it grinded to a halt during the pandemic, causing many developers to raise flags about the effects on business.

City personnel hope that some of the benefits will include:

    • Improved Public Transparency: Applications can be easily to tracked, both internally and externally to see where a project is in the process, what comments have been made, and what steps remain. Customers receive real-time notifications that include permits, inspection statuses, rezoning application status and itemized fee descriptions.
    • Enhanced Efficiency: DallasNow automates and digitizes various manual processes, reducing paperwork, minimizing errors, and speeding up workflows.
    • Streamlined Process: DallasNow enables online applications, electronic plan reviews, and automated permit issuance, reducing the need for visits to Dallas Planning & Development offices.
    • Integration and Collaboration: DallasNow integrates with other systems to provide a comprehensive platform for managing land-use activities. It enables collaboration between different divisions and departments to streamline the entire cycle.
    • Digitization: DallasNow is allowing us to move from paper to digital for applications for certain types of applications including zoning and platting.

They're anticipating a transition and from May 5-16 will be hosting open house sessions with hands-on support to assist customers with setting up new accounts and navigating DallasNow.

These sessions will be held at Oak Cliff Municipal Center from 8–11:30 am and 1:30–4:30 pm.

Self-serve stations are set up in the Permit Center at Oak Cliff Municipal Center during regular business hours.
