Supreme Symphony Gala
Dallas Symphony Orchestra pulls out all the stops for momentous AT&T Gala
Cool, crisp temperatures arrived just in time for the 2014 Dallas Symphony Orchestra AT&T Gala at the Meyerson Symphony Center, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Beautifully dressed symphony supporters descended on the Arts District for a momentous evening.
After welcome cocktails and dinner, gala chairs Jan Miller and Jeff Rich welcomed guests — including honorary chairs Margot and Ross Perot and Mayor Mike Rawlings and wife Micki, Margaret McDermott, Myrna and Bob Schlegel, Barbara and Don Daseke, and Carol and Scott Murray. It was also the perfect time to acknowledge the hundreds of people watching the live telecast at Klyde Warren Park.
Among the evening’s surprises was a special appearance by Sarah, Duchess of York, who came all the way from London to salute this remarkable venue. The symphony, under music director Jaap van Zweden, provided a thrilling night of music, including a special performance with renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman. During the encore, Perlman and the orchestra played the theme from John Williams’ score for Schindler’s List for a particularly memorable moment in DSO history.
At the completion of the concert, after-party chair Anna-Sophia van Zweden lured guests back to the first floor for a Space Odyssey-themed soiree filled with cocktails, desserts and savory snacks galore. The dance floor was packed as Dallas darling Lucy Wrubel mixed up killer beats. After attendees danced so hard their toes ached, employees from the Spa at the Ritz-Carlton were there to soothe their soles.
