Holiday Shopping Spree

The best Black Friday sales in Dallas to jump-start your holiday shopping

Rachael Abrams
Nov 28, 2013 | 12:16 pm

We like to fill up on Thanksgiving turkey and all the trimmings to fuel our Black Friday shopping spree. We'll be rocking our stretchy pants — juices in-hand — so we can shop till we drop. Or at least until that food coma kicks in again.

Although nearly every national retailer known to man offers Black Friday deals, we like to keep it local. These are some of our favorite Dallas stores offering hard-to-resist sales the day after Thanksgiving.

Aftershock London
The beloved British boutique is offering 40 percent off all merchandise, with the exception of sale items. Shop Aftershock's trendy cocktail attire and day-to-night ensembles, just in time for the holiday party season.

Clotheshorse Anonymous
In addition to offering 20 percent off all black merchandise — including dresses, sweaters, shoes, jackets and accessories — under $150, the consignment shop is spreading the love through the weekend. To celebrate Small Business Saturday, Clotheshorse will offer additional savings and give away gift certificates from retailers and restaurants in the area, as well as for the boutique itself.

Forty Five Ten
Brian Bolke's haute house of fashion is marking down fall merchandise by 40 percent. There is no better time to stock up on luxury clothing and accessories for your couture-coveting friends and loved ones.

Five and Ten
Like its McKinney Avenue sister shop, this Highland Park Village boutique is offering 40 percent off fall merchandise. Shop designer lines like Proenza Schouler, Yigal Azrouel, J. Brand and Lanvin.

Last Call Studio by Neiman Marcus
Last Call is discounting merchandise by 40-60 percent through December 3. The sale has already begun — in stores and online — on sweaters, dresses, shoes, accessories and other essentials we "need" for our winter wardrobes.

Mockingbird Station
There's a lot of excitement happening at Mockingbird Station on Black Friday. The best part? After you score a sweet deal at Lavo Collection (buy one dress, get two free) and West Elm (select merchandise is 70 percent off), you can grab another bite and unwind in a movie at the Angelika.

Piermarini Boutique
Owner John Piermarini opens up at 9 am on Friday to offer 30 percent off all women's and men's clothing and accessories, with the exception of leather goods.

Traffic Los Angeles
One of the best new additions to The Joule hotel complex is offering 30 percent off everything from its fall and winter collections. Even better: Spring/summer merch is 70 percent off.

WAREhaus
One of our favorite men's retailers is offering 20 percent off select items. Shop the West Village boutique for hip designer lines you're unlikely to find anywhere else in Dallas.

The Wooden House
Owner Steve Brooks is giving us something really special to be thankful for — new furniture at significant discounts. All furniture made from vintage or reclaimed Indian and Indonesian wood is between 30 and 50 percent off. Additionally, the Wooden House is selling exquisite new pieces at wholesale prices.

Five and Ten (pictured) and Forty Five Ten are offering 40 percent off fall merchandise for Black Friday.

Spa Castle Korean bathhouse in Carrollton reopens after renovation

An Asian spa is about to celebrate a grand reopening: Spa Castle Texas, located in Carrollton at 1020 Raiford Rd., will re-open on January 1, 2026, following a multi-million-dollar renovation.

Established in 2012 as a retreat combining traditional Korean bathhouse culture with modern resort amenities, the facility closed in late July with a plan to bring refreshed pools, enhanced saunas, modernized locker rooms, and hydrotherapy systems.

The renovation was designed to elevate performance, reliability, and the guest experience, while staying true to its Korean “jjimjilbang” roots.

A jjimjilbang is a large, 24-hour Korean public bathhouse and spa featuring gender-segregated wet areas with hot tubs and saunas, plus unisex zones with themed dry saunas like clay and ice rooms. Some also have snack bars, sleeping areas, and entertainment options like TV lounges or PC rooms. In Korea, it functions an affordable destination for families and a cultural hub for relaxation, socializing, and wellness.

Dallas has not only Spa Castle but also King Spa, a similar facility that opened in 2008 on Royal Lane in Dallas' Koreatown district. There is also a Spa Castle in New York.

Highlights of Spa Castle's renovation in Dallas include:

  • Re-Engineered Hydrotherapy Experience: Upgrades to indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and hydrotherapy systems to deliver a more authentic Korean bathhouse experience.
  • Reimagined food and beverage menus featuring traditional Korean street food, barbecue, and beverages.

A day pass is $65 for adults on weekdays and $80 on weekends; for 17 and under, it's $45.

Phase II
The re-opening marks the completion of Phase I of Spa Castle’s renovation.

Phase II, slated for spring 2026, will include upgrades to the on-site boutique hotel and the expansive 8,000-square-foot banquet and event space, to position Spa Castle as a destination for weddings, corporate retreats, and special events.
